Foreigner1 , how do you know he is wasting a linguistic gift? That seems presumptuous. For all you know he also speaks fluent Romulan, Vulcan and Qlargian.

D Bozoko is mistaken about the relative generosity of the USA in relation to other countries. USA gives a large amount of money in foreign aid, but that's simply because there is a large population in the USA.

The USA gives away 0.1% of GDP in foreign aid
Norway gives away 0.91% of GDP in foreign aid.

In actual fact, USA is the least generous of all developed countries.

As former President Jimmy Carter commented: 'We are the stingiest nation of all'. Denmark is top of the table, giving 1.01% of GDP, while the US manages just 0.1%. The United Nations has long established the target of 0.7% GDP for development assistance, although only four countries actually achieve this: Denmark, 1.01%; Norway, 0.91%; the Netherlands, 0.79%; Sweden, 0.7%. Apart from being the least generous nation, the US is highly selective in who receives its aid. Over 50% of its aid budget is spent on middle-income countries in the Middle East, with Israel being the recipient of the largest single share.”

Alex, I don't think that comparison is valid.

sure, Der Lauf Der Dinge and Cog are both kinetic art presented on film - but one is a commercial product which capitalised on the original ideas of the former. It's my own opinion that the original work is still better, and is also more closely related to the post topic.

It's mere ad hominem to dismiss us as 'haters' if we say that than the original is superior to the derivative commercial work. The point is not whether the second is 'any good', but does the original really deserve less merit than the copy?

Do we raise Jamiroquai on high and not mention Stevie Wonder?

Seems odd to me.

Yes, 'Cog' is awful ad-agency plagiarism. They took two takes and it does use CG.

Please don't give ad-agency thieves credit that they don't deserve. Would you like to see the rip-off of the OK GO video also? Make your own mind up if this ad agency is 'creative' or not.

in the recent star trek movie, the bad guys come back in time to kill a young Spock because, in the future, Spock arrived seconds too late to save their planet.

So if the bad guys are back in the 'past' with plenty of time to kill, so why didn't they just go and save their homeworld?
They would have at least 40 years to do so, if they would just stop chasing baby Spock around.

That's a big plot hole.

I would disagree with him, I think it is perfectly possible to "overthink" a problem, and a break from the process (or even a party) can certainly help bring relaxation and afterward: a solution.

the article says :
"One of the final moves to firmly standardize traffic directions in the U.S. occurred in the 20th century, when Henry Ford decided to mass-produce his cars with controls on the left (one reason, stated in a 1908 catalog: the convenience for passengers exiting directly onto the curb"

EH?
So, the supposed reason was that passengers could exit to the pavement. It's the same in Left-hand drive countries. Remember : everything is reversed, passenger seat side included, therefore the passenger always exits to the kerb (UK spelling there).

So, that's either hilarious early 20thC marketing, or a bit of bad modern journalism by Time.

I laughed a bit at the stock art "a couple embrace".

Meanwhile, the real couple look less like a postcard from Spain.
