Dave 20's Comments

No bean; first it got the anti-Jesus blogspam. Simple chronology to follow.

And for the record, if Alex's information is correct, the title of #10 is at best misleading. "Christianity" didn't kill the ancient Olympics, it was Emperor Theodosius I who did it "in part to institute Christianity as a state religion." That statement implies that there were other reasons for doing away with the games.

Yet another case of using a dramatic headline to instigate the inevitable flame war that followed. A not-so-neat bit in an otherwise neat post.

Brachinus: Maybe that's another thing you should scratch from your worry list. Right-wingers aren't as bad as you've been led to believe.

Kirkburn: Perhaps you should visit a seashore sometime and look for evidence of how the sea levels have varied over time.

Hey Alex; thanks for asking! I've noticed my browsing has tended to get a bit narrowly focused lately, and this gives me a bunch of fresh places to visit.

As for my blog, it's nothing spectacular, just stuff that I find interesting on the web or in real life and take the time to write about (and take the time to actually finish writing and get it to the point where I think it's ready for public consumption.) Cars, bikes, energy, politics, family, work, computers, whatever. Pretty random, but... What were we talking about? Oh yeah! My ADD-riddled blog... http://www.davintosh.com/

Sorry; poorly worded sentence in my comment above; should have read, "If you're so insecure that you're unable to ignore the comments. maybe you shouldn't be posting." That's better. And I'd better get some sleep. Too. Much. Driving. Today....

Apparently the issue is that your skin is too thin to be doing this sort of work. Show me any other Neatorama writer (or any other blog writer for that matter) whose name appears so often in the comments on his/her own posts.

This is exactly the type of sophomoric thing I'd expect from the leftists loonies that seem to run the show there. Way to go San Fran. Cute, but you're not winning any friends; just preaching to the choir.

Amazing; all I had to see was the title to know it had Stanhope's name attached. The opinions you express, Adam, do wonders for your credibility. Was this story funny? Yes. But it was your editorializing and offensive posturing in the comments that really sets people off. If you're insecure enough to be unable to respond to criticism in the comments, maybe you shouldn't be posting.

@ Geekazoid & Adam:
Instead of getting all bothered about people who are bothered about your obvious left leanings on posts dealing with politicians who don't share your political views, how about you point out the last Neatorama post on a political figure from the left that was less than positive? I don't recall seeing anything about the Bill Clinton Presidential Library and Massage Parlor...

I don’t understand how you could possibly believe evolution.

And I think Polx is almost grammatically correct; The title should read, "Fossilized Tracks Suggest Dinosaurs Could Swim" (no exclamation point, please). Since there are no remaining dinosaurs, no dinosaur "can" swim any longer.

Just sayin'...

@Dave F:

Not reality? Guess that's why you never see any small business sole proprietorships anywhere. You never get an ideal situation, but that doesn't mean the system can't work in spite of the big guys; it's called finding the niche, and people do it all the time.

True that not all liberals are socialists, but pretty close. ;o)

@Polx:

"The media is almost completely right-centrist."

If you believe that, it must mean that in the left/right continuum you're as far left as they get. From your vantage point, everybody is a right-winger.

As a conservative, I don't necessarily buy the argument that conservatives are happier than liberals, but if it is true, I can think of several reasons why it might be. The main thing is that liberals tend to have a wrong-headed idea of fairness that says everyone should live the same way with the same amount of money, sharing the limited resources fairly. The conservative sees correctly that some people have greater abilities and more ambition than others, and thus earning them more in the marketplace, and that that situation is inherently fair.

The conservative also sees rightly that many resource limitations either do not exist or are artificially imposed. Wealth, for instance, is not a finite thing that must be divvied up equally to be fair; in a proper market-based system it's something that can be grown and shared with all. Some do end up with more, but most often it's those who work harder or risk more. When the government stays out of the way, they tend to put the money they earn back into the market by expanding businesses, creating jobs, growing markets, etc... They end up earning more and become wealthier still, but others profit right along with them. It's called "trickle-down economics" and was championed by a guy named Ronald Reagan. Too bad most of you here weren't born in time to know more of him.

A couple of my favorite quotes; can you guess who said them?
"Conservatism works every time it is tried and liberalism has failed in every case it is applied."
"The only reason the political left is called that is because it sounds better than the political wrong."

"Why are there always people being mean to Mr. Adam."

Cuz he's a mean magnet.

"Does it come with a weapon, like a mass tranquilizer?"

No, but the real Obama does; it's what comes out of his mouth when he doesn't have a cue card or working telepromter in front of him.
