Riding a Chicken Like a Boss

Dublin-based graphic artist Richie Nolan visited his parents' farm and found himself bored. So he created this image of himself riding one of their chickens! That was a lot of fun, so he posted it on reddit, where it became quite popular. How popular?

Gloucestershire, England, street artist Beastie saw it. Beastie was so impressed with the picture that he made a stencil of it and had it up on a wall within 48 hours. He even opened a reddit account to show it. But there are other projects in the works for Nolan's chickens. Read the entire story at The Daily Dot.

Who You Gonna Call? Ghostcutie!

Cooper here was included in our June roundup of cute baby cosplayers in his cute little Delorean stroller and Marty McFly getup. Now he's back and geeky as ever with his revamped pushcart that's now decked out like the Ecto-1. And Cooper is all ready to be slimed and fight Vigo the Carpathian with his cuteness and plush pack and ghost trap.

Impressively, the pushcart is cusomized with pretty much nothing but cardboard, tape, paint, plastic bottles, LEDs and plastic salsa cups which shows you don't need fancy materials to make something totally awesome for your Halloween costume and accessories.

The Panda Twins' First 100 Days

(YouTube link)

Be prepared before you watch this, because you might melt from the sheer cuteness! Mei Lun and Mei Huan are twin male pandas born on July 15 at the Atlanta Zoo. In this video from the zoo, we see them grow from tiny pink newborns into adorable round balls of fluff. Watch as they gradually develop their iconic panda markings and snuggle up with each other. Read more about Mei Lun and Mei Huan (until recently, they were just Panda A and Panda B) and watch them anytime on the Panda Cam at Zoo Atlanta's website. -via Laughing Squid

Unfortunate Vintage Candy Wrappers

You might think some of the candy offerings for children available now are unappetizing (cough*Nerds*cough), but imagine finding a Whiz and a Plopp in your trick-or-treat bag! These are just two of the unfortunately-named candies from the past in a gallery at Collectors Weekly. Some are unappetizing, some are racist, and some were packaged to resemble dangerous stuff, like the candy you might mistake for a kitchen-cleaning pad. What were they thinking?

Marching Band Illustrates Hollywood Blockbusters

(YouTube link)

After doing the Michael Jackson tribute last weekend, the Ohio State University marching band put together an entirely different show in a week's time, and it's a beauty! In this show, they show you formations that recreate scenes from Superman, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The formations are great, especially the walking, chomping T. rex, but there's beauty in the details, such as the flying owl (or is it the golden snitch?) in the Harry Potter sequence. And they do all this while playing the music wonderfully! Siskel and Ebert would have given it a thumbs up. -via Metafilter

The Skeleton Horse

Sandy Cramer of Knot Just Rope tack shop has a jet black horse named Raven. Raven is very patient and stood for 2.5 hours for her Halloween paint job as a skeleton. The ten-year-old horse was first painted for Halloween last year, and was such a hit that people came from miles around to see her! Raven looks good whether she's carrying the Headless Horseman or little kids in their costumes.

The paint is acrylic and comes off so easily that it needs to be touched up before appearances. A bath and a brush will take it all off, because it stays on the surface of the fur instead of soaking to the skin like dye. Read Raven's story at Facebook, and see many more pictures of the skeleton horse in this gallery. -via Everlasting Blort

American Ethnic Foods Section

If you were an American living on the other side of the pond, these are the foods you might start to miss. Redditor AxleTheDog posted a picture of the American section in the ethnic food aisle at the Tesco store in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, England. I see an overabundance of peanut butter and chocolate. There are two flavors of Goober, marshmallow creme, Pop Tarts, mac and cheese, and of course plenty opt candy. Canned pumpkin? A commenter explained that they do have pumpkin pie in Europe, but to make it you have to cook a pumpkin yourself, so the canned version makes things easier -the American way. Sea Lion Snatches Fish out Fisherman's Hands

(Video Link)

Mike “The Griz” Ritz runs Adventures South of the Border, a deep sea fishing guide business in Baja California. Here he is with Pacho, a local fisherman, showing off their catches. A sea lion erupts from the water, snatches Pacho’s fish and escapes.

The sea bird (a pelican?) seems remarkably blasé about it, considering it was within inches of the action.

Adventure Is Calling

Photographer Shane Black had a comfy job, but the dream of traveling across the United States to capture the majestic beauty of America's most beautiful spots had always been in the back of his mind.

One day, Black was joking with his friends about the trip, but the as the idea got more serious, they all committed to leaving their jobs to travel for two months. Black and his friends set off on a 13,000 mile (~20,900 km) journey in a trusty old Dodge Caravan (with no cruise control, no less!) and visited 32 states and 13 national parks.

The result is this breathtaking video clip titled Adventure Is Calling, composed of over 10,000 photographs, that you simply must see in full screen:

Big Cat Rescue's Growloween

(YouTube link)

Halloween at Big Cat Rescue in Florida means giving pumpkins and other gourds to the cats to play with (and nom). This year, they've spiced things up by giving the lions, tigers, leopards, servals, cougars, and other cats piñatas, hanging bats, and wooden tombstones to play with as well. As usual, what we get is powerful and adorable destruction on a grand scale. -via Tastefully Offensive

These Doritos Are Kind of Cheesy, But Also Fancy

Love cheese and Doritos, but tired of Nacho Cheese Doritos? Then you just might love the new limited edition flavor just released in Japan - Camembert flavor. These tasty treats will be available from now until January 2014, but you'll have to get a hold of them by traveling to Japan or find someone from Japan to send you some if you want to try them.

InventorSpot questions the notion of having such a fancy, gourmet flavor on something as snacktastic and corny as Doritos, but as a huge fan of snack food and luxurious cheeses, I would love to try some of these tasty teats.

Othello Needs Some Moral Support

Reader Lorena Landeros is the most recent person to submit a picture of her pet in a Halloween costume to jill@neatorama.com. Unfortuantely, her adorable little adopted lab/husky/who-knows-what else, Othello, just doesn't believe this costume his mom bought at the local Goodwill is very flattering. While Lorena has tried to convince him that he looks absolutely adorable as a pumpkin, he's just not buying it.

Perhaps a little encouragement from all of us can help calm his insecurities. I assure you Othello, you are one of the cutest pumpkin puppies I've ever seen and I'm sure many of our readers will agree with me here.

The Strange Life of Benny Hill

Neatorama presents a guest post from actor, comedian, and voiceover artist Eddie Deezen. Visit Eddie at his website or at Facebook.

Who makes a person laugh is an entirely subjective thing. Like taste in dogs, cars, colors, beautiful women or good-looking men, it is entirely a matter of individual taste. While the Three Stooges will almost always leave me hysterical with laughter, I know of others who view their antics stone-faced. Other will scream with joy at Jonathan Winters or Sid Caesar and neither has ever made me even snicker. With that in mind, I have always considered Benny Hill to be the most underrated comedian of all time.

This brilliant comedic genius was born Alfred Hawthorne Hill on January 24, 1924. After working as a milkman and a drummer, young Alfred drifted into various performing jobs at Masonic dinners and men's clubs before graduating to night clubs and theaters. He also made several appearance on British radio in the early years. Alfred soon changed his first name to "Benny" in honor of his favorite comedian, Jack Benny.

Hill's early roles were eclectic, sometimes as a comedian, and sometimes playing a straight man. He started appearing on British television in 1955 with the earliest version of The Benny Hill Show. The show made him famous in Britain, but this early show is like lukewarm tea compared to the wild later version of the show. After viewing (and loving) the famous Benny Hill shows of the 1970s and '80s, I was very surprised at how mild and tame these earlier shows were.

Benny also had a comedy anthology show Benny Hill (1962-63) in which he played a different role each week. Interestingly, Hill also did some Shakespeare, appearing as Bottom in 1964's TV version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Hill made a few brief appearances in films, probably most notably in a relatively straight role at the toymaker in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968. A multi-faceted talent, Benny even had a #1 British single at Christmastime with "Ernie, the Fastest Milkman in the West."

(YouTube link)

In 1969, Benny's show switched from the ultra-conservative BBC network that had been carrying his show and made the movie to Thames television. It was this move that really gave birth to the incredible comic genius of Benny Hill. Probably the changing times had a lot to do with Benny and his creative freedom splurging in these classic '70s and '80s shows. The loosening of strict codes of morality and censorship enabled Benny to create these mini-masterpieces of comic brilliance.
