Steampunk Arm Guard With Bluetooth And Touchpad

Steampunk accessories are usually really cool to look at but aren't functional, so Etsy seller BruteForceStudios decided to up the ante and create a wearable work of art that also serves a purpose.

Enter the arm guard of the old-fashioned future, which boasts an impressive array of features:

The keyboard features:
– 3-in-1 multimedia wireless keyboard (Keyboard, TouchPad, Laser Pointer)
– Control your media while sitting on the sofa, lounging in bed, up to 100 feet away
– Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a short re-charge time
– Includes mini 2.4 GHz USB wireless receiver
– Wireless receiver stores inside keyboard when not in use
– Stand-by time: 500 – 700 hours

Now you can chat about how cool you look, and the fact that you can afford the $1200 price tag, wherever you go. But can it take dictation?

NeatoShop Contest: Predict Life in the Year 2013

It is time, dear readers, to look into the future. Gaze into your crystal balls. Summon your paranomal mental powers to look beyond the thin veil between today and tomorrow.

Behold! This is what I see for the year 2013:

  • In order to outdo herself, Lady Gaga will appear at the Grammys wearing a dress made out of live feral cats.
  • A cheap, easy method of 3D printing cheesecake will appear on the market, leading to a 50% increase in obesity in the United States.
  • Smell-o-vision will be a prolific smartphone app. When someone calls or texts you, rather than hearing an assigned ringtone, you'll smell a particular odor.

What do you see, Neatoramanauts?

This is a contest. Make a prediction about life, society, culture or technology in the year 2013. Leave one prediction per comment, though you may make as many predictions as you like in separate comments.

Take a look around the NeatoShop and select one item there priced under $20. Note your selection with your prediction. Remember to leave your prize selection with your prediction or you forfeit the prize.

The funniest three predictions win. I will announce the winners on Monday. Now go forth, o seers!

How to Make Rainbow Jello Shots

Christmas is coming. Gird yourselves well for its struggles with two essential nutrients: sugar and alcohol. Jelly Shot Test Kitchen designed this recipe, which uses flavored vodka, gelatin, frosting and sprinkles. Don't forget the sprinkles. People have suffered terrible kitchen accidents simply because they thought that sprinkles weren't absolutely necessary.

Hobbit White Cake

Photo: Meemawof10

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but this hobbit cake looks so delightful. Mmm, Bag End looks delicious.

Created by Cake Central user Meemawof10, you can see there is a little Bilbo Baggins, a miniature Gandalf, and a pint-sized Thorin Oakenshield. I am willing to forgive Meemawof10 on making Gandalf white instead of grey if I can just have a piece. I love cake, especially niche themed cake. For some reason I think it just tastes better when it's decorated into a theme.

Frost Flowers: Nature’s Exquisite Ice Extrusion

The post Arctic Ice Flowers showed us one of the strange things weather conditions can do to water. Here's another: frost flowers.

A frost flower is created on autumn or early winter mornings when ice in extremely thin layers is pushed out from the stems of plants or occasionally wood. This extrusion creates wonderful patterns which curl and fold into gorgeous frozen petioles giving this phenomenon both its name and its appearance.

The Unmentioned Dark Side of Nursery Rhymes

There's also the sixth toe. The one that stays in the attic all of the time and never comes out. Andy Herald understands the darker subtexts of popular, classic nursery rhymes. You can view the rest of his chart on the subject at the link.

Greatest Martini Recipe

It's hard to screw up whiskey, though some people try. A martini? That's only for people who look up to Don Draper as a role model. Drew Fairweather of Toothpaste for Dinner understands.

The Weirdest Hamburger Designs Ever

What happens to a hamburger when its fundamental design is left in the hands of malicious graphic designers? Behold Fat & Furious, a project by French designers Thomas and Quentin. They've reimagined the burger in ways that will shock the mind and stomach, including this one due to arrive in just a few days. It has bacon, beef, scamorza cheese, red cabbage and salt.

The Awkward High School Photo Costume

A terrible outfit, giant glasses and a wretched backdrop is all it takes to put together a great horrible school photo Halloween costume, as Flickr user j.hische proves right here.

The Traditional Peppermint Pig

In Saratoga Springs, New York, it's time to ship out the traditional peppermint pigs. It's hard to pinpoint where the tradition actually started, but pigs have always been symbolic of prosperity. In upstate New York, the pig made it into the rituals surrounding Christmas. Now Mike Fitzgerald, owner of Saratoga Sweets, is scrambling to fill holiday orders.

In the old days, the pig was placed on the Christmas dinner table. Father would wrap it in a napkin and crack it with the steel rod used to sharpen knives so the family could share the sweet-tasting bits, Fitzgerald said. But by the mid-20th century, the area holiday tradition went the way of lit candles on Christmas trees.

In 1988, Fitzgerald made a first run of 60 peppermint pigs at the request of the local historical society. He was surprised to see people lining up to buy them, many of them older people who fondly recalled smashing pigs when they were young. He sold out his run and never looked back.

Crocheted Nutella

Take that out of your mouth. Although your immediate reaction was understandable, you will not be able to taste Nutella here.

Unless they make Nutella-flavored yarn. Is there such a thing? Perhaps one could infuse yarn with Nutella flavoring. It would undoubtedly be a popular product.
