I am all for pointing a good focus on the exploration of the deep. From a cost/return perspective, the ocean is FAR more lucrative than space. Don't get me wrong, I want a much greater effort put forth into space as well, but, let's face it, the ocean is a lot more feasible for manned exploration at this point in time.

The pressures involved are a problem, yes, but we've already developed and are even currently using the technology to overcome that. I mean, for crying out loud, we set people down in the Challenge Deep back in 1960!

I'm actually with Boredas on this one. At first I was thinking "What an interesting idea!", but as I read through some of the dyalogues, it left me quite unsatisfied. The best thing about a debate is being able to participate in it!

Meanwhile, sites such as "Science Philosophy Chat Forums" (http://www.sciencechatforum.com/) allow for very intelligent open debate about any subject with anyone and everyone.

*Sigh*

It's disheartening to me that so many people believe that using an unsecured network is stealing. NONE of the analogies above are accurate for the situation.

If you leave your network unsecured, anyone and everyone has the right to use it as they see fit. That includes every use from checking email to downloading massive amounts of torrents.

The fact that the host is paying for the bandwidth is irrelevant. The host HAS the option of securing their network and preventing others from using it if they so desire. Ignorance of technology is NO excuse. By broadcasting an unsecured wifi connection, you ARE offering your bandwidth for free. There is ZERO gray area there.

If your connection has a bandwith cap, and someone exceeds that cap, it is YOUR responsibility for leaving your connection unsecured.

That being said, unsecured network usage is based entirely on the honor system. While you CAN download gigs of porn on someone else's dime, it is considered extremely improper to do so.

There are also inherent risks to the user. As VonSkippy pointed out, the host may sniff out network packets and use the gathered info for nefarious purposes. If you are genuinely concerned about such risks, then simply do not use unsecured wifi.

Neat concept. I imagine some times of day are more profound than others. Perhaps eventually causing the user to have an unusual excitement over particularly odd times.

"This is the most dangerous crocodile in Africa. Let's poke it with a stick!"

Truth be told, we all knew he was going to die young and by an animal. We just didn't expect it to be something as docile as a stingray.

I'm with DW on this. It's no different than someone hiring a housekeeper. Sounds like everybody's just ranting about him because he's a young college student.

If the boy feels that his time is that precious, and he has the means to afford an assistant, I say go for it! I know plenty of people who would be happy to apply.

Yes, really Ted. Art itself is subjective. Personally, I thought it was an interesting project.

Also, duplicates are not always bad. Especially since the original is over 2 years old. I would not have seen this had it not been posted again. Thanks!

I wholeheartedly disagree with Marinus. The scientist/inventor is NOT responsible for the evils that men do with their creations. It is up to humanity to use their work for the good of mankind.

This technology has the potential to be very beneficial, and helps lead the way to even greater developments. If we start holding back technology because of what it COULD be used for, we'll never create anything.

I see they left out Alaska. Makes sense, as it would be all black with just a few small dots.
