"you can sort the tree by the type (species?) of characters"

I think the word you're looking for here is "race". At least that's how I remember to them being refered to in the books...

I must oppose this for simple, personal reasons - it gets rid of my birthday! On one hand, it'd be great if it meant I was never going to age (which it doesn't..), but on the other, no more cake or parties for me! And I know I wouldn't be the only one with this issue so how do we deal with all of the people who have had their birthday 'removed'? Do I get to pick a new one? Or would we be doomed to having to have both calendars side-by-side forever to see when we were actually a year older? That doesn't seem all that efficient or easy to me...

I've never had a problem (knock-on-wood) with my luggage during a flight and I thought the video was pretty interesting. I kinda wonder why they blurred the faces of their or the airport's employees - you'd think for this kind of promo they'd want to show the nice, smiling faces of those happy baggage handlers :-) I do kinda wish that Delta had chosen to film this during the day time so, you know, you could actually see what's going on when the bag is outside...

This reminds me of shopping at Goodwill Stores (the ones around me anyway). The clothes are organized by gender and type (pants, tops, etc) but then also by color! It makes shopping there doubly exciting - a great deal on clothes AND its pretty!

This reminds me of the weekly vegan potluck my friends and I used to have. You didnt have to be vegan to attend - just all the food was vegan. Since only about 1/3 of the people who ever attended actually were vegan, and cooking vegan can be a pain if you're not used to it, we always ended up with plenty of beer and salad! I really wish we still had them - it would be awesome to have our 18th anniversary of vegan potlucks!

Oh how I remember Prodigy! Thanks so much for mentioning it - I consider it the begining of my love for the internet yet no one else seems to get it.
I was the only one of my friends to have such 'internet access' - which meant that every one thought I was weird and didnt understand chatting via the 'instant messgenger' type program. I remember being able to change my screen name every other day (or everyday if I chose) because there were so few users it didnt really matter. What amazes me is that I did all this at around 11 or 12, and now I wouldnt even be able to do anything I thought was fun (joining chats with older users, randomly searching profiles and having mine searchable) with all the age restrictions. I still talk to one friend I met on Prodigy; we met by one of us randomly searching profiles for other users that lived in our area and
were similar age, we then moved to talking via AIM and now we usually communicate via Facebook!

I dont know about pickle flavored popsicles, but theres a store around here that sells all sorts of crazy flavored ones. They have stuff like cinnamon-watermelon and one I cant remember that had rosemary in it - with actual sprigs of rosemary in the pop! Their website isnt that informative, but if you live in the Triangle are of NC, check them out - its definitely different!

This is amazing. Not that the croc came after them, but their statements about how/why this happend are great.
They "didnt realize the crocs were aggressive" and were "shocked" that it wanted to kill you?
Did they even know what crocodiles were previous to this encounter??

I've heard of a similar study where the researchers found that its acutally 'better' for the environment if people drive instead of ride a bike for transportation. The gist being that because someone is driving, they're not getting as much excersize, thus have a shorter life span and then not staying around as long as the bike rider to produce trash, waste, etc.
My statistics teacher loved to use this one to show the 'power' of statistics - how you could really use the numbers to show anything you wanted if you worked hard enough.

Wow, that explains some things!
I hear all the objections, but the post does say that there are "other complicating factors" that the author explains, which I think might cover some of those objections. Yes, its simplified, but thats the point, right?

Eh, I dont really miss it all that much, like others , I dont watch alot of TV.
I want the writers to get a good deal and I think they're owed what they're asking for BUT they're hurting alot of innocent people (the florists, boom operators, caterers, etc, etc) when these shows are stopped and they have nothing to do with the disagreement. At least keep working and negotiating at the same time or something. The networks dont give a crap about these people so it wont get them to negotiate - the writers should be the bigger man on this one and end it so all these innocent workers arent hurt even more.
