I never wear a helmet when bicycling, but I may have to rethink that. My brother was the victim of a hit-and-run driver while on his bicycle. He suffered a broken collarbone, broken rib, punctured lung and a severe concussion. His helmet was cracked nearly in two, but it was evident that it would be his skull that was fractured had he not been wearing the helmet.

I support the freedom to choose, but I can be honest and admit that a helmet DOES protect your head.

The whole point of this legislation is that the federal government is setting energy standards that they KNOW cannot be achieved with incandescent light bulbs. They are indeed outlawing the bulbs because of this fact. However, the government and people like yourself can claim otherwise because the law itself does not ban incandescent bulbs by name.

No one has ever shown a true life-cost comparison between fluorescent and incandescent bulbs. (This is a total cost from procurement of raw materials, manufacture, shipping, cost of lifetime use, and disposal.) Add to that the fact that improper disposal of fluorescent bulbs pollutes the environment with mercury.

One other issue with calculating the cost of incandescent vs. fluorescent bulbs is when you calculate the energy "lost" as heat from an incandescent bulb. In my home I run the furnace for heat about five months out of the year, and the air conditioning for cooling about another five months. During the cooling season, heat from the bulbs increases the amount the air conditioner has to run. However, this is offset by the five months in which the heat from light bulbs in my home actually HELP heat the home. In fact, since the heating season is the part of the year when daylight is shortest (and the bulbs are burned more hours of the day) I would bet that the energy used to help heat more than balances out the extra air conditioning used in the summer months.

I think these people (in all honesty) deserve Parents of the Year award for trying to do something to motivate their son into improving his grades.

No matter how he got to this point, even if the parents share responsibility for his current academic standing, I applaud their decision. I hope others take inspiration from this and do what is necessary to make their children do what is right.

The idea of freedom is still alive today in the United States of America, but there are those in the world who would put out Lady Liberty's light. Let us continue to stand for freedom not only for ourselves, but for the rest of the world. God bless America!

Are they serious? I am an Amazon Prime customer ($79 a year) which I joined for the free second-day air shipping privilege. With that I get unlimited Amazon On Demand video. Why would I pay $50 a month to view movies?

What I find is disgusting is that they can light up the Empire State Building in rainbow colors within hours of this bill becoming law, yet they refused to light it up in blue and white to honor Sister Theresa and her works of mercy for poor and starving people.

I don't care one whit what someone's sexual orientation is, with whom they have sex or how they choose to live their personal lives so long as they don't try to push it off on me. However, changing the definition of marriage from what it has been for centuries (a union of one man and one woman) is just wrong. Provide legal protections for same sex couples all you want, but quit trying to destroy the fundamental unit of our society by changing the definition.

Raccoons are pests. Seeing how this happened in Toronto I imagine that the homeowner isn't allowed to keep a gun, and a shovel is all he had available to use to dispatch the animals.

To all you idiots (and yes, I mean IDIOTS) who think killing an animal is wrong, piss off. If I get a raccoon that keeps coming around tearing things up I use my shotgun to deal with the problem.

Stop anthropomorphizing animals. And to Bozko (or is that BOZO) who said it's a small step from killing an animal with a shovel to killing a human, you've got it backward. The act of killing an animal doesn't turn you into a serial killer, it's that sociopaths sometimes start out killing animals. Don't even start to try to make this homeowner, who was only trying to rid his home of pests, into some sort of murderous beast.

Idiots!
