Let me get this straight... extinction means that there are no living members of a species left. Obviously this was NOT the case for this insect, humans only thought they were extinct. Why the misleading headline?

Jolly,
To make this kind of gravy, you use the drippings from sausage or bacon and add flour to make a roux. Then you add milk, and gently bring to a boil, stirring constantly. The mixture is seasoned with salt and pepper. This makes white or "country" gravy. Americans (particularly in the southern portion of the country) ladle this gravy over biscuits as part of a traditional breakfast.

Respectfully submitted for your edification:
Each of these is a prototype of a cutting tool invented by Jebediah Scissor. Jebediah tried to market it for cutting paper and textiles, but it failed miserably. His son, Obadiah Scissor, had a stroke of genius and joined two of them together using a rivet as a pivot point, and the rest is history.

This irritates the heck out of me. If I was the parent of the child in question I would be meeting face to face with the school demanding they leave my child's lunch alone and that they could go pound sand for the $1.25 they are charging me for the forced feeding. I would probably have to restrain myself from making threats of violence against the "inspector" who caused all of this.

Thank you for a very informative discussion of the Vatican. I wouldn't exactly call all of these points secrets, as general knowledge of many of these facts are already known to 1.2 billion Catholics around the world, but the specific details are not always understood. Thanks again for the post!

So many good comments here. @Heath, my thoughts exactly. Both nature and nurture apply to how we develop as human beings. @Nathan - you beat me to commenting that physically he is male, and you can't avoid identifying as male in some aspects no matter how you raise the child.
@Raf3: Your naiveté astounds me. Children are notorious for mistreating those that are different in ANY manner from the social group they belong to, and this child's parents are evidently just as naive. It's tough enough for a child to go through the teasing, taunting and harassment of such differences that cannot be avoided, and it's another to bring this on a child for no good reason whatsoever. So yes, I DO blame the parents for putting their child through this. In some ways it's not much different than those parents in Ohio who named their son Adolf Hitler.

First of all, the failure is on the part of the government for trying to legislate research and innovation. The whole thing amounts to another tax on the end users. The oil companies aren't going to foot the bill for these penalties, they are simply going to pass along the cost to the consumer.
If the government is going to get involved at all, why don't they offer incentives for using biofuels instead of penalties for NOT using them?

I am all for trying to get kids healthy. I am all too aware of the health risks of obesity, having fought it most of my adult life, and finally was able to lose the excess weight after gastric bypass surgery. However, I think the emphasis should be on helping parents help their children instead of using the psychological approach on the children themselves. Overweight kids have enough self-esteem problems that they don't need adults laying this on them.

Vivisection, biology makes gender binary - male and female. If my aunt had been born with balls she'd be my uncle.

You could just summarize with the last phrase of Ms. Metcalfe's statement, “but also who gets to profit.”

Probably would have looked (and tasted) better with some shredded mozzarella cheese melted on top. I guess it's better than no pizza at all.

The billboard in that picture is in East St. Louis metro area. I see it when I travel to St. Louis. On the west side of the river they have another one with their local St. Louis number 314-333-3333. Would you trust a one-eyed attorney?

Glad to see that there are people who still show compassion for others despite how rotten people are.
