I agree with others who say that this is a trivial finding. (Play most pop hits in 5 easy lessons...)

What I want is a catalog of songs grouped by common chord progressions. You know - how this song has the same prog' as this other one?

Or for greater depth, after find the percent of songs use progression A, B, C.... Then we'll have a better idea of how much pop eats itself, and how we're paying (if we're still paying) for the same songs, over and over.

I hear that Kiefer uses the Method for "24". Every day, he shoots a guy in the leg. "What's the soup of the day at the commissary? Tell me now!"

I just watched this with my wife for her pediatrics residency adolescent psych rotation. Kiefer frightened _me_. I concede that he's not just Donald's son -- he's an Actor for reals.

Football purse: darn, I was thinking that if I had to sit in a mall or dept. store, holding my wife's purse, that would be a good purse for, uh, me. She could say, "Hold my purse," then I'd say, "Hit me, I'm open." Or, "Hand me my purse"; "Go long."

Sometimes, she exits the car with our toddler, with the understanding that I'd bring in the 'baby' bag and her purse. I try to hold the purse in a masculine way -- exactly a runningback's tuck. The football purse makes sense, for a husband who holds his wife's purse.

Great article, Cristophe.

Does anyone remember the Italian study publicized about a year ago? Index finger length correlates penis size. (Better than general finger length, or something like that.)

Together with this study: penis size, sports aptitude, financial success. It makes sense, though I won't go so far as to say that I'm ready to publish. You'll have to draw the lines yourself.

My aunt lives on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City (Philippines). To use mass transport on the other side of the street, you have to cross 4 to 5 lanes of 50-60 mph traffic to get to the median, and 4 more to get all the way across. I say "4 to 5" because lane stripes seem to be mere suggestions; drivers will create their own lanes as they feel necessary to get around other vehicles in order to maintain their own speed.

Traffic is a major problem in metro-Manila. Because of this, Commonwealth was turned into a "through-way" --- stop lights were eliminated. Left turns are done at makeshift U-turn points, jerry-rigged with concrete dividers and steel fences. Ugly and self-defeating, perhaps.

Just a few years ago, the QC gov't installed footbridges on Commonwealth, 2 flights up and over all the traffic. But you have to trek down the road a piece to get to one, depending on where you live. And when the summer heat is sweltering, the crossing will get you sweaty and tired. People still try their luck on the ground-level crossing if they feel that it's a bridge, uh, too far.

Speaking of using mass transit: There are no sidewalks on Commonwealth in some areas. Groups of people will congregate here and there at edge of the driving surface, trying to flag down a taxi (usually a Sentra or a Corolla, but also some mini-van sized vehicles). There have been some occurrences of vehicle-versus-pedestrian fatalities, more often at dusk. One newspaper reported a bystander describing the victims as "going down like bowling pins."

Green note: medians in other areas of QC had trees, planted during a "green" fad. When the QC gov't decided that more lanes were better than more trees, they reversed their effort and removed the medians, along with the trees. I believe that the traffic problem persisted, but without the trees and grass in and along the street, a new problem cropped up: dust. Take a walk down Commonwealth or Katipunan Ave, then wipe a washcloth behind your ears or neck and see that part of the 'street' has collected there.

They needed a laser? How about a made-in-Taiwan hot iron? Would that work as well and at a Fraction of the cost? This is why you don't Need Apple.

I don't trust that two-faced cat. He'll say one thing, then without turning around, say another, sometimes at the same time. I'm through with that.

Here's an NYT article on the bailout of British Leyland, maker of the Triumph. Alas, they are no more.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/18/business/economy/18car.html

Lee Iacocca wheedled the fedgov for money to keep Chrysler alive. Chrysler's back for more today.

I understand that the automakers form the core of a big part of the economy (glass, metal, plastics, electronics, aside from the labor and the diners they eat in), but:

"It's the product, stupid."

A designer or engineer from a U.S. automaker called NPR to complain about the "populist drivel" about them making cars that nobody wants. I don't consider Consumer Reports or J.D. Powers "populist drivel" and by their surveys, the Japs make better cars in the most important category to me, vehicle durability. And they're making cars in the U.S. So who's American?

If it's "free market forces" then it's "no" to bailout. Recession aside, it's how we got the largest economy in the world. But if it's handout time, how about the workers who may be on the verge of destitution?

But I'm no expert.

Finally, after nearly two decades of internet surfing, I see clearly the true purpose of the internet. (Not pr0n? or "Do you like dogs?" -see Jon Stewart.)

The Monty Python Channel on YouTube sanctifies the web and exalts Monty Python as is fitting and proper. The scripture has been fulfilled.

(Sayeth thou:) Amen.
