A friend of mine used to work at Starbucks. They offer insurance (that the employee pays $50+ a pay period for) to part-timers. Half the crew she worked with was there ONLY for the insurance.

Geekazoid, it's not "political issue" on a local level. As a former resident of South Texas, I can tell you it's very much a "crime and safety issue" for the folks who live near the border.

Not all the folks who cross the border into the US are nice people just looking for better lives. Many of them are drug smugglers. Others are happy to break and enter, rob, steal (and worse) on their trip north.

Better the camera system than a pack of trigger-happy racist vigilantes.

Alex, I'm with you about the political stuff. It slays me when somebody complains when something even vaguely political that gets posted and says "That's not neat!" They're mainly complaining because it doesn't support their beliefs/opinions.

When something happens in the political world (good or bad) that's a huge current event, it is of interest to a LOT of people. That makes it Neatorama-worthy, IMHO.
