call me a cynic, but I can't help but think so many people who have continually tweeted and blogged the eric story are simply riding a publicity bandwagon. don't get me wrong, I think it is amazing that people were able to come together to save a life (potentially), but, it really seemed as though many twits were rather self-serving in their involvement. :(
VonSkippy: just quoting the article, holmes. the above were referencing the "mother gaia" hypothesis without seeing that the article states that he introduced it.
I said nothing at all as to whether or not it reflected my own beliefs nor whether it was actually the basis for "REAL science."
googamooga and dave: perhaps you should read the entire article. Lovelock is the one who "introduced the Gaia hypothesis, a revolutionary theory that the Earth is a self-regulating super-organism. Initially ridiculed by many scientists as new age nonsense, today that theory forms the basis of almost all climate science."
And he goes on to say ""There have been seven disasters since humans came on the earth, very similar to the one that's just about to happen. I think these events keep separating the wheat from the chaff. And eventually we'll have a human on the planet that really does understand it and can live with it properly. That's the source of my optimism.""
