That one about Microsoft encouraging paranoia and backstabbing is almost exactly like the policy at Intel. Except, since they claim to be data-driven, Intel's policy is that 10-15% of the employees WILL be punished or fired every year.
And, just like Microsoft, many good employees decided to leave that mess.
