@bronsky even if it has been done over a photograph it's still clever. If you think it's so easy you go do one now and post us a link to the results.

I don't drink much or often and I've never had a problem with drinking soft drinks at a party or in a pub or restaurant. The only people I can think of who would feel uncomfortable doing so would be men* who feel they must be perceived as "manly" in any situation. You're either manly (whatever that means) or not, drinking alcohol is not going to change that. I suppose these people could be victims of the sort of archaic advertising that promotes the likes of drinking an smoking as macho pastimes.

*Yes I am a man for those who would assume that these comments must come from a woman.

Great article. I've always found Monroe's performance really let the rest of the film down. It's odd that I always thought she was playing the part as if she were reading the lines having not rehearsed them and having read the article I now understand why.

I enjoyed the film but largely because of Monroe's attrocious performance I can't believe that this was voted funniest movie ever. To be fair even if her performance had been top notch I'd have been surprised if it had received that accolade.

The assumption that this is the devil seems somewhat flawed. It could be the artist slipped in his own face or the face of a friend or sponsor or some prominent figure. Like j says it could have been added later, but there is also the fact that artists of the time didn't necessarily paint the whole of a large fresco like that. They used assistants, often students, to do some of the less important work. Could it be one of them that slipped in the face?

Oh and @Thorfin the phrase "the devil is in the details" is a corruption (probably originating in the 19th century) of an earlier phrase "God is in the details". This is generally taken to mean anything you do, you should do well and carefully. The phrase you quote is often used now to mean that things go wrong where you miss out the little details from your plans. In other words the devil is in the detail that you miss.

@Randy yes your explanation is correct, but this information is from cracked and they don't let little things like facts get in the way of writing a line like: "Max Josef von Pettenkofer drank a steaming cup of cholera bacteria that he cultured from a patient’s diarrhea bombs."

Cracked seems to be aimed at 13 year old boys. You can take just about anything you read on Cracked and turn it down from 11 to 1 and you might just have something like the truth.

@observer you're going to take it with you where? If you're religious then almost all religions tell you your corporeal remains do not go with you to the next life. If you're an athiest then you know that when you die that's all there is. Lights out. No more. Game over.

Oh and if you're agnostic you don't care enough anyway.

But to you, jpj and the other selfish goons I still don't see your problem. If you care enough to have that attitude then all you have to do is opt out. Simple.

@Gellner, yes you're right it's fantastic - if you're a rube who never saw The Matrix or anything else that's used the same tech over the last dozen years.

@Gellner lets just see how many stores are selling this this time next year shall we? If there's demand they all will, but I suspect you'll be hard pushed to find it anywhere outside countries with strict anti-alcohol laws.

@nihil it's a nice idea to have a yes or no on file, but the difficult is getting people to put anything on file. Research has shown that many people support the idea of organ donation, but have never got round to filling in the form (not that it's much of a form) and carrying the card. Thus the idea of the opt out system.

@Wes maybe you were being ironic that doesn't really make sense does it. Why let a patient die who you could otherwise have saved in order to save another patient who would otherwise die. Organ transplants can be a fairly risky business, they are certainly not a guaranteed cure, they are also very complex and expensive operations with a lot of expensive aftercare. So no doctor is going to say "This guy would die if we didn't stem the bleeding and give him a transfusion, but hey there's a patient waiting for a heart transplant in another hospital and this guy would match. There's only a 50% chance of that working long term, but let's go for the transplant."
