The Other Parker's Comments

I've never heard of Talor Mali before. It's quite possible that he is a FAKE slam poet and wealthy and a CHEATER. I'm not going to waste my time joining in a vendetta against the guy. But this video was neat! And I'm glad Alex posted it. The skill required to verbally slip all those typos in there so casually is impressive.

I was such a bookworm when I was a kid but somewhere along the line I lost it. I've read precious few of these books. I thought I was a more literate person than that. It's kind of humbling! These days it seems like all my reading is web surfing. But I should add that, though I've only read bits and pieces of Joyce's work, I'm surprised to see him so high on this list. Like others have commented on here, didn't he write mostly gibberish?

I'm surprised there's no I, Robot. I've only read a couple on this list (Ender's Game and H2G2) so maybe the others are better/more accessible than Asimov, but I thought it was a fantastic and fascinating collection of short stories. And considering they made a movie based (very very loosely) on it, Asimov's robot fiction must have some mainstream appeal. Sidenote, Bicentennial Man was a much better movie in my opinion.

@Stantor: Wait, what? Jesus did a lot of stuff, but that wasn't one of them. Sounds like you're just reaching to associate him with Obama.

Jesus was apolitical. He did his own thing. At some times he was very popular (probably more for his miracles than his message, which was purposely challenging and confusing) and other times all but his closest friends deserted him. I don't think Jesus would be too keen on the political system at all, but would implement more direct, organic ways to affect the world. I reckon his words to modern politicians would sound a lot like his words to the Pharisees and Sadducees. I thing Jesus would go out of his way to expose government-worship as the idolatry it is, and encourage people to follow God, rather than man, as their king.

That is pretty crazy. I was a scout and I know that a good number of the badges are overrated, pretty easy to earn. The trickiest part is getting your troop/scoutmaster to issue them! My troop only offered certain badges at certain times... others could only be earned when we camped at scout facilities with staff who could teach the classes. Many badges were simply unattainable because there was no one to instruct.

I'd say Dobson's year comes across a lot more heartfelt (and less commercial) than A.J. Jacobs'. It always amazes me, anyway, how different from our expectations the Biblical Jesus turns out to be when people really look into him. You'd think with all the religion out there, more people would get it.
