Come on. Is this necessary? Since when is childbearing a contest? If so, let's just declare them the winners. Grand prize: one free spay or neuter operation.

Don't care if the Duggars can pay their way. Don't care if they're happy. It's just more people ahead of me in line at the movies. And when they all grow up, 19 more cars ahead of me at the Wendy's drive-thru...

I don't buy it. There's a huge difference between being "analytical" and being "depressed." Many studies have revealed two key features of depression: 1. Cognitive distortions that can severely impair one's ability to think rationally, and 2. A pervasive sense of hopelessness about solving one's problems. Granted, there are many levels of depression, but I can't see how any of them could make someone a "better" problem solver!

Terrible blog to link to. Note the subtitle in the banner: "Kneecapping Barack Obama at every opportunity." WTF? Whether Dem or Rep, this kind of talk is intolerable.

Check out the photo album on the family's website. In virtually every shot of the girls, they are washing clothes, cooking, ironing, holding babies, and other mommy stuff. The boys are invariably playing soccer, playing foosball, playing chess, playing on their computers, or as the captions say, "looking on" while their sisters work.

A great day for the USA.

And for those of you who keeping whining about how Obama will turn the country into a socialist nation, sit down and shut the f*ck up. It's already happened, under a conservative REPUBLICAN administration no less. In the last few months the government has effectively nationalized the home mortgage business (Fannie & Freddie), investment insurance (AIG), and investment banking (too many to list). Expect more as the $750 bailout is paid out.

Even the most socialist nations of Western Europe have not achieved such sweeping control of the financial sector. The history books will remember Bush as one of the most socialist, government-expanding presidents in US history.

Actually, this procedure doesn't appear to be very different from the methods used by surgeons today to correct a fistula in ano. I had a fistulotomy -- as they are now called -- three months ago. This was done in a hospital operating room under full anesthesia and LOTS of pain medication afterwards. I cannot imagine undergoing such a procedure fully conscious. Yikes!!

I was at work that morning. The person in the office next to mine, who had been listening to the launch on the radio, ran in saying that the Shuttle had exploded. "You're full of it," I replied "that can't happen." Such was the confidence we all used to have in our space program.

Fast-forward four years, and I had become a NASA employee myself. One of my assignments was cataloging the archives of flight 51-L (NASA's designation for the final Challenger mission), including documents, still and motion photography, and telemetry data. It was an emotional and stressful -- not to mention highly politically charged -- job. Although declassified, and subject to Freedom of Information Act requests, many of the documents were considered too shocking or embarrassing for public consumption and there were many within the Agency trying to control access. I only lasted about two years in that job.
