ted - I don't get why his parents would be right to sue if Terry ate the freak. The kids the one who broke in and put himself in danger, how is any of that the responsibility of the zoo?

Is being Green really just about giving up the ability to think for yourself - to research both sides of an argument and not letting someone else tell you what to believe?

Well, this kid certainly wasn't an orphan in Africa with a lack of clean water for mixing formula. Nor was it stated that he was screaming his head off when the MIL tried this. Yes, other people around the world may have different culture standards by which this action was acceptable. Here in the States, we do not share that. Neither is our culture standard about breast feeding being reserved for the mother and infant wrong or right, it just is. Same with every culture standard across the world.
The simple fact is, the MIL violated the western culture standard that implies breast feeding is reserved for mother and infant and neither did she seek permission to attempt this "bonding". This woman seems like she might have issues with her daughter-in-law, perhaps jealousy that the new mother is receiving attention and also forming a bond with her child, and maybe a bit of a problem with this new birth signaling her youth is gone.
Frankly, if my MIL crossed the line like this I would be very angry. Even if my own mother tried it, I would be angry. And further more, this mother has the right to be angry. Just because someone else somewhere else in the world has a cultural acceptance of just anyone breast feeding a child, doesn't mean this mother has to accept what her MIL tried to do.
.....also, anyone else here think of the 'Little Britain' sketch with the grown guy whose mother and grandmother still breast feed him anytime he demands bitty?
There was plenty of unplugged brains signing mortgages where I worked. But there was also creative financing. This was part of what influenced me to quit. Some of the guys working at that company were sleaze. They'd do anything to get a person into a loan, sometimes two or three, arranging it so that they all hit the banks at the same time so none of the banks knew these people were getting loans from other sources for downs and purchase price.
I'd really like most people to realize that all these stories of people losing their homes are typically due to people buying homes out of their price range and using creative financing to get the mortgages for it. Then, most of these people waited a few months, took out 'equity' and used the money to either make a few meaningless improvements or buy stupid toys like cars, tvs and vacations.
For a few years during the boom I was working for a broker here in San Diego (NOT as an agent, in fact, I was his graphic designer). I saw the above happen just about daily. People with no stable income were buying homes above $500K on those flexible interest rate short-term mortgages. It was greed and stupidity that's done this to people.
When my husband and I bought we stayed well below what we could afford, and granted we didn't get the McMansion in the new neighborhood our friends were getting .... but, hey, we've never had a problem making our mortgage payment. We still get to go out and have fun, take vacations, and build our savings for retirement.
Can anyone explain to me why and how the gas companies are posting record profits, the nation is screaming that the price is too high and yet they aren't price gouging?
What exactly about hip hop is good? The gangbangers across the street from me love this crappy genre. They blare it from their car stereos while beating their pitbulls to toughen them up for dog fights.
Why not just accept death? It's the natural order of the world, all living things must embrace their own mortality. That money could do such more in improving the lives of animals, and people, already alive in this world.
