Oh...and come to think of it, it would possibly be better to implant a rectangular piece of teflon with raised hemispheres on the surface to be read through the skin. Since if you only implant spheres they can travel out of alignment before they heal in place and ruin the entire idea. Hence a thin piece of teflon would be better. However, you'd still have to place it under the dermis so the raised effect would not be very pronounced on most places on the body (because of the thickness of the dermis) unless you use hemispheres far larger than what's in regular braille text.
Calling it a tattoo is somewhat of a incorrect use of the word tattoo though. What she describes is an implant, implants are implants, tattoos are tattoos.
Either way it seems like a quite backwards thing to do when you have options such as scarification instead. They would require less invasive procedures, create better results and be fairly permanent. Implants need to be released at some point, it's important to point out that the outmost majority of all implants (subdermal and especially transdermal) are temporary and the amount of time you can keep them can vary quite a lot from person to person.
Julia, whoever said that breasts do make a woman? I'm actually not as much appalled at the accusation but moreso that it's the first thing you come to as a conclusion. Do not pin that opinion on me. My reaction would've been exactly the same if it were to do with something like a foot, testicle, colon or any other sizeable part of the human anatomy.
Oliver, I'm not really arguing that it doesn't help, obviously it does. I'm moreso questioning whether it's the best decision. It's her body to do with what she wants, but that doesn't mean that everyone must understand or agree with her opinions. Is she brave for having the surgery? That's arguable.
Then there's also the advances made in cancer research (that obviously could be greater if sufficient funds were avaliable) that may very well save her life, or prevent her from getting cancer, if it were to come that far.
Hence, I'm having troubles understanding her choices, though I'm not in any way trying to diminish them. As written, it's her body.
Props to her for starting the organization, but still...wtf? Wouldn't dealing with the psychological issues of fear be a better idea than to undergo possibly unnecessary surgery? She had the predisposition, but it was still in no way certain that she'd get cancer. I would've actually understood this more if she had removed her breasts because she was into amputation or body modification, but not for this reason (and I've had people in the family who've died from various kinds of cancers).
I'd argue that it's actually a good idea to move a house. Often it's cheaper to move the house you have if you're going to move than it is to build anew. There are even people who buy houses, move them to large lots where other people can buy them and move them to where they live. Think a used car lot, only houses instead of cars.
The bad idea is obviously, as written, to do it yourself :P
Not home shopping network, not even home shopping period. This is regular night time programming on quite a few regular channels in Sweden. It's a game-show where callers call in (rather expensivly) guessing words while the presenters try constantly to entice more people to call in.
Vomiting is one thing, but having to give TMI to explain it is another. It's obvious to anyone watching the program that she's not the brightest bulb on the tree.
"Hey, the best reason for a tattoo is cos it’s trendy. Trend = … oh, a temporary fashion. Gee."
Nice to see that making strong generalizations from a single picture about a persons reasons for doing whatever is still strong in the general population. What were you saying about intelligence now again? Huh?
I had a neighbour as a kid who did this exact thing, but he had made a contraption out of a pole, some wire in a loop at the end on which he put a plastic bag to shove under the dog's ass when sitting down. I have never seen such a paranoid dog before.
Technically it means "mega bag" though, but the sentiment is the same.
About shopping in Finland, you can oftentimes see stores all over the place with big signs which say "Ale". Don't be fooled if you're looking for a drink, all it means is that the store is having a sale.

Man, THAT'S humor!
Twitchings, you mean you didn't lose all respect for the Nobel Society when Mother Theresa won the peace prize? By comparison this is nothing.
