Norwegian Blue, you can have multiple children in China... if you can afford it. From what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, if you have one child you get things like health care, day care, and school for free for that child. If you have any more than one child, you lose all of those benefits for all of your children, and things get extremely expensive. Women pregnant with a second child are harassed constantly by neighbours and government people who make their lives hell unless or until they finally abort. (I saw a pretty heartbreaking video of a woman aborting in her seventh month a child she very much wanted because they finally got to her.)
That said, it also depends on where you live. People in the countryside are often allowed to have more than one child with little or no harassment from anyone. This is probably because it's easier to run a farm if you have more children around to work for you. If you live in the city, you can expect to be scrutinised by everyone.
I wonder, though, why his daughter was stolen and why... That's so sad.

Yeah! We should pretend that this could have reasonably been trucked to those starving kids and that there aren't systemic solutions to things like hunger! Letting this spoil in the supermarket is vastly preferable to expressive applications!

Yes, Profkampf, we should legislate our personal judgements of people's personal lives that hurt no one based on what we think is reasonable and what isn't! I should be the final judge of who can and can't marry, and if they can't prove they're in love to me, screw 'em!
Just like women's bodies. They should only get to use them in ways I think are okay depending on what I think of how they conduct themselves in private.

It would really help PETA's image if they weren't sexist, classist, racist, fat haters. Seriously, it's like a sorority. You can be ugly and join, but they're unlikely to let you come to their parties.
Normally I rankle at the hate that comes out in Neatorama comments, but I feel like PETA has worked hard over the years to earn it.
That said, I still don't like it when people are like, "omgstfu." PETA gets to speak, just like everyone else. Let them dig their grave.

I don't disagree with any of the criticisms of the infographic here, but who is really going to remember the details of this thing in a week? I basically take away what I already assumed. There are a lot of satellites, and most of them American or Russian.

So I guess Chriswww is also opposed to the benefit to medical science of experimenting with prosthesis in animals? Dude, it's not your money, it's not your cat. I'm glad it wasn't your call.

I'd like to see an article about viruses that target macs. I mean, how many of us are reading this on the bus on our macbooks?
I'm not being snarky, I'm just curious what's out there.

Zava, tide pools in Oregon. I'm pretty sure these critters are common in this climate. I can't seem to find the species, though. It's some kind of anemone. It looks like a little green mouth with fuzzy lips and it scrunches up and closes when you touch it into a little brown lump.

I always figured that's where they got the idea? Anyway, what about those little round things in tide pools? I always enjoyed poking them and watching them scrunch up. And those are hardly the only organisms which exhibit such behavior.

We're detectable for other reasons. One of the ways astronomers have proposed looking for alien civilisations is to analyse the atmospheres of planets for pollutants or other signs of life. Life changes a planet, you know?
If they're looking, they'll find us. Getting here will be a bigger problem.
And communications can't go faster than light.

Also, I wouldn't be concerned about the water. None of the water we drink is %100 H2O. We'd be pretty sorry if it was. It's just different depending on the wheather, soil, and society.
