@mks43094 Have you ever heard of free speech? Public domain? Fairly simple concepts that describe the natural order of things not some idealistic vision of the world. How about 'culture'? Don't you realize that Elvis is a part of America's shared cultural heritage, not a product or commodity.

Notoriety has its own benefits and rewards, those who are afraid of its consequences should content themselves with the fact that it is EXTREMELY easy to avoid. It is so easy to avoid, in fact, that millions of people spend their entire lives seeking it out without finding it.

The idea that family members of a dead person have some kind of natural right of control over that person's public image is so absurd as to be laughable. Human beings are not commodities, you do not 'own' your father or mother after they die. What if Elvis' daughter used her control over his image to make 'him' exclusively promote the KKK? An Elvis endorsement is not anything his daughter or estate can legitimately give after he is dead -- the whole concept of endorsement is based on the agency of the individual making the endorsement, so it is not possible for a dead person to endorse something. In case the point wasn't blindingly obvious, it's not possible for a dead person to do much of anything! When a company says or implies that a famous person endorses their product and that person does not then the correct legal issue is false advertising and/or misrepresentation. It is almost impossible for a company to misrepresent a dead person in this way, as the vast majority of human beings, however so dim, automatically recognize that a dead person is not capable of making an endorsement of a product or service.

Actual images of Elvis are protected by copyright privilages that adhere to their particular owners -- photographers, for example. Most of these the Elvis estate has no legitimate claim of control over, but their value has presumably been largely destroyed by the successful litigation campaigns of the Elvis estate.

Isn't it funny how much less of a problem drug addiction was back then when you could by cocaine, heroine, and morphine at your nearest drug store and it was cheap.

Wow, that's really depressing. Poor babies only had a seven million dollar (that's about $50million today's money) fortune that they did nothing to produce and so they rode roughshod over the rights of millions with (what should be) unconstitutional laws, and malicious litigation in order to get back the rest of what they 'deserved' to inherit. That's one of the saddest stories I've ever read, a real testament to human nature.

I agree that you ARE "Doesnt (sic) Matter" and are obviously posting under another another name, lol. Oops, you can fool the goose but you can't fool the gander! Riddle that out.

Wow, the writer of this article has a stalker, that's badass. Maybe he should provide a higher level of entertainment by revealing who he is and what his personal gripe with the author is, because right now we're just scratching the surface of what could be something very heavy and awesome.

He is a figurehead who represents a large part of what is wrong with our society. People object to having the likes of Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, etc jammed down their throat by trans-national media conglomerates who exercise illegitimate power over our society(ies). Most don't intellectualize it that much, but the antipathy towards Justin Bieber by the vast majority of human beings in the world is a natural emotional reaction. If someone can't understand why people would take some satisfaction in seeing him hit with a water bottle while on stage then I think the problem lies with them. They probably wouldn't have understood if someone threw a tomato at Marie Antoinette, either. "But, the nobility are trying to help us, and they have a very difficult job with all that responsibility." Har Har.

Wow, well that totally sucks. I thought the heart illusion was one of the best I have seen, too bad it's bogus. Now they are all called into question, but I won't bother to pull up photoshop for every one.

Other things:

#5 -- doesn't work for me at all. Does anyone see a "red" ring on that one? It just looks like different shades of blue to me.

#15 -- doesn't work for me at all.

#16 -- doesn't really work for me, I can kind of see the neon lines after I'm told to visualize them there...

#25 -- I can say the colors or read the words without any confusion whatsoever (first try). I wonder how much of these visual anomalies is a matter of conditioning and not actually fundamental to the way the brain processes images.

#26 -- SOOOO not worth it. It is kind of impressive that the illusion lasts for a long time, on the other hand minutes later I still have lines and stripes embedded into my vision wherever I look. This effect is pretty subtle, not dramatic at all (for me at least), so don't expect anything great from putting in the six minutes to stare at that, it will just hurt your eyes, and the only impressive thing is that the effect lasts for a while.

There has rarely been a man so undeserving of his 15 minutes of 'fame'. Hope the dude goes to jail. It seemed fairly obvious from the initial news stories that he was a stereotypical gay man throwing a mid-life hissy fit in dragmatic queen fashion.

Damn, I think I just heard someone get shot on the other side of my neighborhood. Oh well...

This is great for this girl's acting career. She is super beautiful, and she did the expression's really well. If it was real I would say she was a hero, hehe, but too bad. The main thing that tipped it off with a fake feel was that the set in the background and the dry erase board was too sterile, like what you would find in a home store display mock-up or a set on tv. And the girl's make-up was too well done.

One thing that made it seem real was how she actually is dressed pretty unstylishly, which tends to be a pattern with really smart girls who might execute something like this so well, and I wonder if they did that unstylish dressing on purpose or not.

As for the hoaxers, they really sound like wankers. I definitely don't plan on ever visiting thechive or whatever it is again after this or bothering to find out what the site is about. It would be more fun if it was just something this girl came up with to advance her acting career. They got a bit lucky with the girl, imo, who looks both unusually beautiful and sort of girl next door in these pictures, and that visual aspect is the main thing that made the pictures so popular. Almost all the comments on thechive about the photos were posted by men, hmmm.....

I have no idea what the use would be, but somewhere out there someone is probably reading about this and thinking, "They finally invented exactly what I need!!!"

...And a few years from now Sharpie will stop manufacturing them and that same person will be very disappointed.

I think it's pretty well established now what happens in most of these cases. Almost always is an overweight smoker. They fall asleep or pass out (alcoholics often), the cigarette catches a small fire on their clothes, the fumes can reach a point of incapacitation before it gets hot enough under the fire to make the person wake up, after that it is the wick effect where the person's body can burn for several hours without the flame spreading to surrounding furniture/etc, because the fat acts sort of like candle wax and their clothes as a wick. I saw a show where a fire safety expert demonstrated the whole scenario and how the fire can burn for hours (bones to ash) without lighting the rest of the room, he described the commonalities of most supposed SHC victims in history (most fit the same profile, almost 100% smokers, etc), and it was pretty much a 100% convincing explanation for the vast majority of the supposedly mysterious SHC cases that have been reported.
