Yeah, Alex- I was thinking the same thing...for $25,000 it BETTER come with the snazzy matching hat!

I like the one in the front of the pic, is it covered with faux fur? Is that still a cupcake? Or a fuzzcake, maybe?

UPC actually stands for "universal product code", as the price of an item will vary from place to place, but the code assigned to a single product will always be the same no matter where it is sold. The first digits of the UPC (usually 6) are the company code, and all the products made by that company will have the same digits at the start of each UPC. The last digits are the product code and each one will be different for each item. The last digit that is usually shown separated from the other digits and outside the bar code is the check digit which is not actually part of the UPC. Every time an item is scanned, the reader puts the UPC through some horribly complicated equation and it must match the check digit or it is rejected.

Yeesh. I've worked in retail too long. :-/

Oh, how lovely...seems like all over America, (the Land of the Free) we're honoring the founding of a repressive communist regime that's done such nice, helpful stuff like force women to have abortions when they violate the one-child policy, censor the media, execute protesters, etc. Hello?! Tianamen Square? Remember that?

Enjoy your celebration, comrades!

Well...like all cats, the hybrids in this article are pretty and interesting. I'm sure they can make great, enjoyable pets.

Buuuuuut...(and there always is a "but")in any country where millions of healthy, adoptable cats die every year simply for lack of a home it is irresponsible to breed and sell some expensive new "novelty" cat breed like it's a trendy fashion accessory. Domestic and wild crossbreeds are to cats as "designer breeds" are to dogs, and it is nothing more than a marketing ploy to line the pockets of the greedy. There's no telling when the first dog breeder said to themselves, "What am I going to do with this accidental litter of poodle-lab puppies that I can't register? I know! I'll give them a cutesy made-up name and tell people it's a RARE NEW BREED! Then I can still get $800-$1000 per puppy!"

Now this scam is becoming more and more prevalent in the cat fancy, with the added twist of wild cat genes. Meanwhile, "plain" domestic cats everywhere die by the thousands in shelters every single day. It's a terrible shame, it's unnecessary and completely avoidable.

I'm proud to say I've never gotten a cat from any place but a shelter or directly off the street, and I never will buy from a breeder. Never ever.

If someone goes out and buys a domestic/wild hybrid kitten or a designer dog, they ought to be made to walk around with a sign around their neck that says, "Look at me and my trendy pet! I don't give a crap about pet overpopulation, I've got to look COOL!"

Yeah, I was wondering about how you can sleep in it as well. I see it has a step in front of the door and the fold-out sections look like there might be enough room to lay down but one would think there's a danger of it tipping over.

If you can't sleep in it, it's not really a camper.

Well, I was gonna say it was really brave of him to go through with that, but these two guys were serving their country in a war zone so they were already in the "Brave" category.

I hope no one ever gives Barry Delaney a hard time about this, it was a good thing, doing it out of respect and friendship like he did.

Hmm, it's an interesting debate...but if these fish are genetically modified in such a way that they are sterile they will eventually die out as long as no more are being released. I can certainly understand why someone would be alarmed at the thought of GM organisms being turned loose to freely hybridize with their wild counterparts because there's no way of knowing what damage will be done to the original species. Giant STERILE trout won't do much permanent harm, if they do any at all. Only if they were capable of reproduction would they be a real threat to their environment.

As for the world record, well, it should be in a separate category from others that were not GM fish. I say that because if it wasn't for the fish farm irresponsibly allowing those fish to escape in the first place, there wouldn't be any 40+ pound trout for anglers to catch and therefore claim as a world record.

Aw. :-(
RIP, Patrick.

I can't say I was surprised to hear of this, though. As soon as I heard he'd been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I knew he was not long for this world.
