Kids need more carrots and fewer sticks - as well as more compassion and understanding. When I misbehaved at home, my parents made the punishment fit the crime as much as possible, such as making me clean up a mess I made.

Actually, all humanity needs "emergency books" stored in Knowledge Arks in case of a calamity so devastating that it seriously disrupts, if not ends, our current civilization. Don't laugh, as it could happen: a repeat of the Carrington Event, a supervolcano eruption, a particularly virulent pandemic, an asteroid or comet impact, just to name a few.

I attended a seminar on the human gut microbiome, and it was fascinating. We are just beginning to understand how the bacteria in our guts affect us, and how we affect them.

An excellent idea - we need to create Knowledge Arks to preserve our collective achievements in the arts and sciences. Just one problem with miniaturizing information and putting it on the moon: It won't be very useful after the Apocalypse, and will require tremendous effort to retrieve. We need more low-tech, down-to-earth storehouses of knowledge to get humanity through the rough years after everything goes kablooey. Still, this is a great idea, and La Lune is a very safe storage location.

This would be a great way to store our collective knowledge and achievements in the arts in case of a civilization-destroying disaster. A pandemic, a coronal mass ejection scoring a bullseye on Earth, a supervolcano eruption - quite a few catastrophes could end our present technological society. Thus, we had better create Knowledge Arks to protect our culture and science just in case!

This is why I don't put too much faith in Google Maps. It has given me problems in the past, and on more than one occasion sent me on a Sally-Go-Round-the-Rosebush route. I always get a second opinion from Bing Maps or Mapquest, and use street view to double-check my route.
