The main purpose of any organization is the same as any animal, survival. It is not in the interest of the organization to support activities which weaken its power or compete on its mission. Even when an organization builds a lifespan into its mission statement, the people that make up that organization often fail to adhere to that ideal. Why purposefully make your job irrelevant? Better to invent new reasons for continued existence.

I worked for an organization that was created in the 1950s that initially had a 3-year study mission.

See, I like all of these and would want them all in my home. I love the feeling of being unable or very difficult to find. It's very relaxing knowing that no matter who needs me for what, I am not available.

I understand the sentiment of keeping indoor-only cats, but remember not everyone lives in the city or even near roads. We have a couple indoor-outdoor cats and a couple indoor-only cats. The ones that go outdoors rarely even leave our back lot. I go out there and whistle and I can count on one hand the number of times they both didn't come bounding out of the bushes to greet me.

It was a natural evolution of who became outdoor cats and who didn't, those who were constant in their attempts to escape evetually evolved to go outdoors at night, and meow and cry if the door isn't opened to allow them to do so. The other two never had any desire to go outside and so, they don't. I don't feel there is any disservice being done to either.

I like how you can make the connection to how each evolved. So the vine that had mutated yellow spots on some leaves did better reproducing than the others, so now it's a beneficial mutation seen in the population. the quick life cycles make this interesting too.

Poor people may be more generous giving to charities, but they don't create jobs which is really the most important part of the economy. Charity is great and all but I'll take one rich person creating a new business with 100 employees over 100 poor people donating $250 to some cahrity.
