Miss Insomnia Tulip of the internet-famous Lou Lou P’s Delights bakery makes amazing pastries that look like real objects, such as naked Burt Reynolds and naked David Hasselhoff. But she can do more than just show aging male celebrities undressed with cake. Her most recent project is a chocolate orange. She reveals hidden in its form an armadillo curled up to protect itself from your appetite.

Bacon-Wrapped Deep Fried Twinkies

It's just basic science: any food can be improved by adding bacon and/or deep-frying. Amy of the wonderful food blog Oh, Bite It evidences this fact continously.

Her latest demonstration is the ideal breakfast food: Twinkies, wrapped in bacon, then deep fried. It's the right way to start the day, especially if you eat them as I do: with powdered sugar and chocolate syrup on top.

Deep Fried Pikachu

(Photo: Seulgreat)

Which Pokémon would taste the best? This is the source of long speculation by fans of the game and anime franchise. But it's remained speculation because first you've gotta catch 'em all.

An enterprising company in South Korea is getting started on actual research. Kotaku reports that you can buy Pikachu meat patties. You can order them online or in restaurants.

What does Pikachu taste like? Apparently like pork.

13 Copycat Burger Recipes You Can Easily Make at Home

The Faux Cheval Burger | Image and recipe: O&O Eats

As game day approaches, some of us are hosting friends and family and whipping up an appetizing spread for buffet tables. Others have been asked to bring a dish to contribute to gatherings hosted by friends. Such buffet offerings are a highlight of parties like these, both for people who love sports and, especially, for their spouses or children who have limited interest in them.

Something realiably scrumptious, such as Shake Shack. The linked article contains recipe imitations of burgers from Shake Shack, Red Robin, Au Cheval, Smashburger and more. Give it a look and see if there's a juicy temptation for you within.

Green Tea Chocolate-Covered Potato Chips Exist

Casey Baseel of Rocket News 24 brings us excellent news: it’s no long necessary to mix your own green tea chocolate, then pour it in precisely measured lines over ruffled potato chips. It’s possible to buy whole bags of prepared green tea chocolate-covered ruffled potato chips, thus saving you from a good half hour of work every day.

Baseel taste-tested the results and said that they smell not just like green tea, but specifically like the Uji matcha variety of green tea grown in Kyoto. That’s good because we’re not crude savages who give no thought to keeping up appearances in respectable society. Baseel continues:

With the chocolate kept to moderate quantities, the first taste sensation is a salty one, like a normal potato chip. After that, though, there’s a mellowing sweetness, pleasant but in no way cloying. The layer of chocolate is just think enough to slightly soften the crispness but also provide some moisture.

Fluffy Omurice with Jun and Haku

After a trip to the grocery store, Jun (previously at Neatorama) cooks an omelet with chicken and rice while Haku watches respectfully from the top of the refrigerator. I wish my knives were that sharp, maybe I'd try that trick of rendering the chicken skin instead of using pre-skinned chicken as a shortcut. No way would my cats behave so well when chicken is on the menu.

(YouTube link)

It was hard to decide whether this should go into the Neatolicious sub-blog or the Lifestyles of the Cute and Cuddly sub-blog. While I got into the video because of the cat, I ended up hungry, so it goes with the recipes.  -via reddit

The Origins Of Fifteen Strange Southern Dish Names

Southern food is known for being extremely filling, utterly delicious and often strangely named, with some of the names making a delicious dish actually sound disgusting.

Take chit'lins for example- sounds gross, tastes great, but who would think to draw a connection between this dish and Medieval England?

Chitterlings (deep fried pork intestines) date back to at least the 1400s, and while the dish comes from England it's rarely eaten there today.

Livermush is a surprisingly good mélange made of pork liver, head meat and cornmeal that's fried up and served in a sandwich or with some eggs and potatoes.

It sounds a bit like something you'd wipe off your shoe after a trip to the slaughter house, but in this case the transparency is like meatloaf- a description of what goes into the dish.

And before you get too creeped out to read on please note- there are no puppies used in the making of hush puppies.

14 Things You May Not Know About Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay, aside from crafting his take on haute cuisine, has also carved for himself an image that's more rough and tumble than most celebrity chefs. If you think he's the chef that's most likely to cuss you out in any given scenario, you're likely right.

But that way of living has apparently kept him on the receiving end of some rough surprises himself. The linked listing of fourteen different facts about Gordon Ramsay spills at least one, such as the time he was threatened at gunpoint during a shoot:

5. He Was Once Threatened at Gunpoint While Filming.
While working on The Big Fish Fight in Costa Rica, Ramsay and his crew devoted an episode to investigating fishermen who were illegally killing and selling sharks to make shark fin soup. The crew climbed aboard a fishing boat, only for Ramsay to find a sack of shark fins hidden under the ship's hull while he was swimming. When he threw the sack on board and called the fishermen out, an argument erupted, leading some men to point rifles at them when they got to the dock to pressure them to stop filming. Ultimately, the police urged them to leave the country. "They said, 'if you set foot in there, they'll stab you,'" Ramsay recalls.

But that doesn't mean Ramsay isn't in touch with his "softer side." For example:

3. He Believes in the Power of a Good Cry.
"I think crying is important," he told Fox News. "Not crying, not showing that emotion, bottling it up can lead to dangerous things." Ramsay has no problem with the contestants—who are often as young as 8 or 9 years old—on Masterchef Junior crying on the show, though he admits that it's hard to see them get upset over their mistakes.

Chef Recreates Epic Mexican Meal From ZZ Top Album Tres Hombres

As a kid I remember cracking open my father's copy of ZZ Top's 1973 album Tres Hombres, opening the gatefold sleeve to check out that classic pic of the world's most heavy duty Mexican food meal.

The picture was intriguing and raised many questions in my mind- Did ZZ Top eat this epic meal after the picture was taken? How much of that cheese and beer foam ended up stuck in their fabulous beards?

And, most nagging of them all- why does this picture make me so hungry?

(Vimeo Link)

Sadly, those questions remain unanswered, but now thanks to Austin, Texas based chef and ZZ Top fan Thomas Micklethwait we get to see what went in to creating that epic spread, and how the whole thing tastes.

ZZ Top's singer-guitarist Billy Gibbons thought it sounded like a delicious project, saying "It's crazy – absolutely nuts, I stand in awe of what he's accomplished."

-Via Rolling Stone

I stand in awe of what he's accomplished. I have to hand it to him, he recreated every last element that you see in the centerfold with exacting detail. It's rather remarkable.

Sake-Flavored Kit Kat Contains Actual Alcohol

(Photo: Nari Nari)

Japan is crazy for Kit Kat chocolate bars and that nation is home to numerous flavors that Americans might find unusual, including soy sauce and green tea. Now residents of Japan can get Kit Kat bars flavored with rice wine. They consist of 0.08% alcohol, so you will need to eat a lot of them in order to get a real sake experience. I humbly volunteer for that task.

You can read more about these new Kit Kats at Kotaku.

Vegemite Cheesecake

Ah, Vegemite! The yeast extract that is a popular food in Australia is less well-known in the United States. What does it taste like? Food blogger Ben Starr says that “a fingerful of Vegemite is like a meaty, salty punch in the face.”

So it would therefore make the ideal basis for a cheesecake. Chef Billy Law made one. He says that you shouldn’t judge it until you’ve tried it because “salt brings out the sweetness in food, and this works the same way: the salty Vegemite enhances the sweetness of the cheesecake.”
