These Kids Are Wrapping Coats for the Homeless around Posts and Trees

Tara Smith-Adkins of Halifax, Nova Scotia wants to make sure that the homeless people in her town don't want for warm winter coats. So every year, she rounds up local kids to walk around town, tying coats and scarves to trees and signposts in the area.

This year, the event served as her daughter's eighth birthday party. She and seven of her friends tied up the coats with little tags explaining what they were for. The CBC reports:

The children wrapped lamp poles with coats bundled with either scarves or mittens. Each item had a tag that read "I am not lost! If you are stuck out in the cold, please take me to keep warm!"

This is the original form of a tool now made of plastic that you place in the center of a pizza in preparation for delivery. Because pizza boxes have a wide surface area, there is a risk of something crushing the box down onto the pizza which can damage the enjoyment of eating it. Delivering mushed pizzas can also hurt the pizza companies image. I believe this dates back to the latter half of the 19th century.

Around the turn of the century, a strange attraction was popular for an extremely short time: Mouse Circuses. These were created because of the flea shortage of 1908. Small circus acts were taught to mice. Mice arialists, high wire and slack wire walkers, diving mice, mice shot out of a tiny cannon, and most popular, the mouse strong man act. This is the barbell from that act, without the weights attached. Surprisingly, the demise of the mouse circus was not due to the arrival of cheap foreign fleas starting in 1910, but because of the "mouse doping" scandal of 1909, where it was discovered that many of the mice were using steroids. Every word is true. Except the ones that aren't.

It is a well used 'Plunge-Fork' for eating live eels. Its a bit of a acquired taste, but in Mibelsten Wisconson they still hold the 'Ael festivel' with four metric tonnes of eels being consumed by local and visitors. Mibelsten is also famous for being the setting for several urban legends about insane townsfolk killing travelers and satanic rituals. It doesn't appear on maps, but you can find it by asking around.

Back in the day, when there were no watches,they had portable Sun Dial. The Sun dial was crafted so you can balance it on the palm of your hand; it incorporates cardinal directions(little studs on the side),numbers that are located beneath the top part, and little metal legs that cast a perfect shadow on your hand.
