The Mikiphone Was the 1920s Version of the iPod

Or, if you're a bit older, think of the Mikiphone as the world's first Walkman. This invention by Miklós and Étienne Vadász manufactured in Switzerland in 1924 was one of the first means of providing portable music. It's powered by a hand-cranked spring turned a few dozen times.

According to Open Culture, the device was marketed for travelers as music that could fit in a gentleman's pocket or a lady's purse.

YouTuber Phonoguy, who explores the history of phonographs, describes how the Mikiphone works. More than 100,000 were made before the company folded in 1927. Some functional models are available for purchase on eBay.
