10 of The Richest Criminals in History

A successful criminal can rack up a lot of ill-gotten gains, but to what end? You can get killed, spend years in prison, or to avoid detection, you could live a simple life as if you had no money. One drug kingpin on the list died after one too many plastic surgeries to avoid detection. Maybe the sense of power is more important then the money to these people, like mob boss Anthony Salerno, also known as “Fat Tony.”

He began his life of crime in gambling and working as a loan shark.  Salerno eventually worked his way up to the role of Consigliere in the Genovese crime family. He is thought to have been behind dozens of murders, spent much of his life hiding money and racketeering, and he’s known for his cigar smoking and pajamas.

Salerno was worth about $600 million, which puts him fairly low on the list of ten very rich criminals at Money Inc.
