A man known as Ajarn Ton has been giving Thailand teens magical tattoos that are supposed to make you invincible. He has recently been arrested, because guess what- they don't work.
Large groups of teens, claiming to be followers of Ajarn Ton, would gather in crowded areas like markets or at carnivals to see if anyone wielding a weapon could hurt them. They truly believed his tattoos would protect them against gunshots, knifes, or whatever anyone attacked them with, but as Major General Kanisorn Noinard from the local police told AFP, “every single one of them was injured”.
Ajar Ton's real name is Boonyong Luangjumpol, which is way cooler in my opinion. Boonyong just rolls off the tongue. Boonyong specialised in Sak Yant tattoos, an ancient type of Thai tattoo that infused Buddhist prayers and supposedly invoked mystical powers of invincibility. When police searched his house they found 9 guns, 121 bullets, 18 swords and a number of fake weapons. Most of this he had collected from poor teens who traded for that tattoos because they were unable to pay up. He was at it for 10 years before police caught on.
The silver lining to this story? Ajar Ton would tell these teenage kids to wear the invincible tattoo responsibly. They just didn't listen.
