Bullet Jewelry

Yesterday, I featured Andrew Tuohy's amazing high speed photo of a handgun being fired underwater. Tuohy is more than just a firearms expert. He's also skilled craftsman. At the top, you can find a floral sculpture--a present for his mother--that he made from spent bullets. For the project pictured below, Tuohy set sapphires, topaz, tsavorite and peridot in, again, bullets that he fired and then recovered.

Good question. I've seen a handful of jewelers unsuccessfully attempt to turn these expanded hollow-point bullets into earrings, pendants, rings, etc. The results are always rather ugly. This guy's little bouquet actually works, in it's own lighthearted way, and he's not a jeweler; he's an ex-military guy who runs a gun blog.

Tuohy's blog is a great resource for concise and unbiased tests and reviews.
