Giant Blue Bear Sculpture: Peek-A-Boo!

Photo: Elizabeth Thomsen [Flickr]

That's "I See What You Mean," a 40-foot tall blue bear peering into the window of the Colorado Convention Center. The steel and fiberglass sculpture is created by Lawrence Argent:

The artist has described I See What You Mean as a stylized representation of native fauna. As the bear peeks inside the enormous facility at the conventioneers, displacement and wonder pique curiosity and question a greater relationship of art, technology and whimsy.

Thanks for using my photograph, and for the proper attribution! This picture of the Big Blue Bear was taken a couple of years ago, but I was just back in Denver last week and took some more pictures. My favorite is this one, taken in a light snowfall:

@k8

I was in Boston when they put those freaky dancing aliens up, and when I came back my instant reaction what W.T.F.

I'll take the bear over those things anyday.

I can't tell you how many times I rode my bike by this bear and never saw it. The dancing aliens with their creepy space age music that plays 24/7 are much more visible if front of the DCPA. You can only hear the music if you're around their legs. Gotta love Denver's crazy art.
