This is a great story but there are a few mistakes. I am his nephew and I was just home for the Holidays and met with all the rest of his family that was killed in the explosion. He is the second youngest of seven and every single one of them are alive including his 80 year old mother.

From the article:

McDonald, badly injured as a child in a gas explosion that killed the rest of his family, is still looking for donations to finance his Atlantic voyage, the proceeds of which will go to children in hospitals and in disaster zones. He has worked as a stuntman in 400 films.

Wow - from childhood gas explosion to stuntman. It's a good thing my childhood propensity for poosplosion didn't lead to a career as a janitor.
