NAIL, a Rhode Island based advertising firm has unveiled its latest project designed to make people think about hunger. They dubbed the project “Nothing,” pointing out that it is what thousands of Rhode Islanders eat each day. Cans containing nothing were manufactured and placed at 130 volunteer retail outlets. TV ads were placed in which people took a taste test and offered “nothing”. This is the kind of campaign every state should consider, as it makes people think about what it’s like to eat “nothing”.

Every can purchased puts ten pounds of nourishing food on your neighbors’ plates. Which makes this can more than a can. It’s an opportunity to do something. Proceeds support the Rhode Island Food Bank, so for now: Nothing is only available throughout our home state. Any marketeer who knows how hard it is to get shelf space for new products – even for existing national brands – will appreciate the efforts it took to get 130 retail locations throughout Rhode Island to participate. I half expect to find it on eBay any minute now.

The owner of a seafood store in Wickford, Rhode Island received a lobster shipment from one of its suppliers, and came into possession of a 20.6-pound lobster caught off Georges Bank in Canada.

He decided to release the lobster, but first ransom it to raise $2,500 for a local food bank.  So if you want this 65-year-old lobster to swim free, send a contribution to the "Free Wickford Willie Fund" by Saturday, January 31.
