Pizza Hut Proposal Package

Posted by Miss Cellania in Food & Drink, Holiday on February 11, 2012 at 8:00 am

Can you imagine anything more romantic, personal, and memorable than a proposal at a pizza chain? Pizza Hut is offering a deluxe Valentine’s Day proposal package that includes an engagement ring (no diamonds though -it’s ruby), photographer, videographer, limousine, fireworks, and a ten dollar pizza! The cost? Just $10,010. Better hurry and reserve your package, because they are only selling ten of them. But hey, if you miss out on the deal, you can a) make your proposal a surprise, 2) do it in a more personal place, and c) save enough money to pay for a nice wedding and/or honeymoon. This Kitty Pizza Is Far From Purrfect

Sure he looks cute, but the toppings are far from evenly spread…and how on earth would you divide it up between your guests? Worst of all, it probably is covered in cat hair.

Can You Make Pizza In A Jar?

Posted by Jill Harness in Food & Drink, Living on January 30, 2012 at 10:46 pm

By now, you’ve all heard about cupcakes and pies in jars, but can classic pizza pies be made in a jar? The concept is the same, just add your dough and other ingredients and bake. While I love pizza and the cupcakes and pies in a jar sound tasty, something about pizza in a jar just seems soggy.

Pizzagna Combines The Best Of Two Great Things

Posted by Jill Harness in Food & Drink, Living on January 29, 2012 at 11:01 pm

If Garfield were real, this brilliant combination of pizza and lasagna would be enough to give him a heart attack…assuming he didn’t already have one as a result of his terrible diet and lethargic lifestyle. The idea’s pretty simple, just pile some thin crust pizzas into a casserole dish with a little extra sauce and cheese and voila…pizzagna. It would go great with your pizza beer.

Pizza Steamed Buns Sound Delicious

Posted by Jill Harness in Food & Drink, Living, Travel on January 23, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Chinese steamed buns stuffed with meats or other delicious fillings are always a treat, but Japan might have just upped the ante with their new pizza buns found at the local 7-Elevens.While the reviewer at Serious Eats doesn’t seem to be too fond of the actual product, I think we can all agree that the idea has a lot of great potential.

What do you guys think? Yum or yuck?

Why make one? As President Kennedy said of a somewhat similar ambition, we Americans do great things like this “not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” Nick of Dude Foods — the man behind the chocolate covered deep fried triple double Oreos — added nineteen cheeses to a Domino’s Wisconsin 6-Cheese Pizza. CIA’s Password (“PIZZA”) Hacked

Posted by Alex in Blogs & Internet, Food & Drink on December 5, 2011 at 4:10 pm

It's certainly inconvenient if your password is hacked and your identity stolen. But if the CIA's password is hacked, it may mean a death sentence for its covert operatives.

Recently, there was a huge setback for the CIA when its spies in Iran and Lebanon were caught because their password was cracked. What was that password? PIZZA:

In Beirut, two Hezbollah double agents pretended to go to work for the CIA. Hezbollah then learned of the restaurant where multiple CIA officers were meeting with several agents, according to the four current and former officials briefed on the case. The CIA used the codeword "PIZZA" when discussing where to meet with the agents, according to U.S. officials. Two former officials describe the location as a Beirut Pizza Hut. A current US official denied that CIA officers met their agents at Pizza Hut.

From there, Hezbollah's internal security arm identified at least a dozen informants, and the identities of several CIA case officers.

Wide is what you get with Burger King Japan's 8.8 inch (22cm) diameter Pizza-Size Burger. Note that only the buns are extra-wide, in between are four regular Whopper-sized beef patties arranged in a four-leaf-clover pattern. The fillings and toppings are also normally sized but at least they're provided in abundance.

Bank Robber Stops for Lunch Nearby

Posted by Miss Cellania in Crime & Law on October 12, 2011 at 4:54 am

The Wells Fargo Bank in Yuma, Arizona was robbed on Saturday. The alleged robber, 56-year-old Henry Elmer, “fled the scene” and went all the way across the parking lot before he stopped for a pizza and a beer.

Employees at the pizza parlor noticed that their new customer looked “agitated,” but were not otherwise suspicious. He ordered a beer and some pizza, and then had a seat in the back of the dining room. According to an employee, “As he sat down a cop walked in and saw the guy. Then the cop asked me if the guy had been here that long, and I told him 10 minutes tops…. That’s when the rest of the cops came in.”

You may be thinking, that’s a pretty good response time. It is, but on the other hand the cops did not have too far to travel, since the Yuma police station is basically also right next door to the bank:

The story is very similar to another robbery in San Francisco, which you can also read about at Lowering the Bar. Link -via Boing Boing

The Noid is Back!

Looks like Domino’s is capitalizing on the trend of revitalizing ’80s and ’90s ad campaigns and programming, because the Noid is back! (Remember when he had his own video game?) If you like Domino’s on Facebook, you can play their Noid shootout game and receive a coupon for a free pizza if you’re the high scorer that round. I played once and didn’t even come close to winning, but you’re probably much more talented than I am. Good luck.

100 Acres of Pizza Served Daily in the US

Posted by John Farrier in Food & Drink, Living on June 24, 2011 at 5:52 pm

According to a trade organization for the pizza industry, America gets about 100 acres of this food on a typical day:

For those of you yet to take lunch, we think it’s the perfect time for a hunger-inducing stat of the day. The Daily tells us, in a profile of healthy pizza purveyor Naked Pizza, that the United States pizza industry “serves about 100 acres of pizza a day.” This figure comes from the National Association of Pizza Operators, an organization that aims “to create and foster a community of independent and small chain pizzeria operators and their industry suppliers where doing business with one another is mutually beneficial.”

If this includes Chicago-style pizza, then the measurement really should be in cubic feet. Link -via First Things | Photo by Flickr user roolrool used under Creative Commons license

TMNT Fans Make Michelangelo’s Most Disgusting Pizzas

Michelangelo of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was noted for his preferences for grotesque pizza toppings, such as chocolate sprinkles with clam sauce. These dedicated fans took up the onerous task of preparing and then eating 29 of Michelangelo’s recipies. Let us salute their courage.

When you order a pizza online, a lot of the places have a text area for you to include any special instructions you might have, like extra sauce or a code to get in to your apartment complex. When the blogger who writes for Awesome Robo got to this section on the Domino’s online order form though, he decided to ask for a drawing of Yoda riding a tauntaun. Surprisingly, the Domino’s staff was happy to oblige with this little doodle.

Burglar Left Dangling Over Hot Oil

Posted by Miss Cellania in Crime & Law on March 21, 2011 at 8:03 am

A fire alarm alerted police to a break-in at Paesan’s Pizza in Rotterdam, New York about 1AM Friday. They found Timothy J. Cipriani wedged in an air duct with his legs dangling over a fryer in which the oil was still hot!

Cipriani allegedly told police he was trying to crawl inside the pizza parlor when he became trapped in the narrow vent. He was charged with burglary and possession of burglar tools.

Brown said a second person may have been involved, but disappeared before officers arrived.

Cipriani broke into the restaurant by first scaling a nearby tree and traversing the roof, Brown said. Once on the roof, he used a hammer to smash open air ducts.

Police took several photographs at the scene and shared them with reporters.

Police took 30 minutes to free Cipriani, who was taken, still covered in grease, to the Schenectady County jail. Link -via Arbroath

Pizza Shop Owner Delivers Mice To The Competition

Posted by Tiffany in Animals & Pets, Crime & Law, Food & Drink on March 2, 2011 at 4:14 pm

A Pennsylvania Pizza Shop Owner is being accused of trying to sabotage the competition.  It is alleged that Nikolas Galiatsatos went into a rival pizza place and stashed a bag of live  mice in the bathroom. The incident is being called “food terrorism by mice.”

How was he caught?

Chitwood said two of his officers happened to be eating lunch in  Verona Pizza on West Chester  when Galiatsatos, 47, entered the business carrying a bag and then asked to use the bathroom.

When the owner of the shop inspected the bathroom, he found footprints on the toilet. The owner checked it out and discovered a bag stashed in the ceiling of the bathroom.

Pizza Habit Saves Woman

Posted by Tiffany in Food & Drink, Health on February 22, 2011 at 9:50 am

A pizza habit and a concerned delivery driver are being credited for saving an elderly woman’s life.

Every day for the last three years, Jean Wilson has called her local Domino’s pizza place. She always orders a large pepperoni pizza. Suddenly she stopped calling.

Jean’s regular pizza delivery driver, Susan Guy, became very concerned and went to check on her. Susan knocked on the door and banged on the window of Jean’s house. She even went and talked to neighbors. Finally she called the police.

Guy quickly called 911.  When police arrived, the broke down the door to Wilson’s home, and found her lying on a floor inside.

They soon learned that Wilson had fallen on Saturday, and couldn’t get over to a telephone to call for help.  Investigators said it’s possible that her pizza-only diet may have saved her life.
