Naturalist Style Illustrations Of Pokemon

Laura Bifano puts pencil to paper in order to capture Pokemon in their natural settings, like a naturalist illustrator who draws from her imagination rather than from sightings in the field.

The result is an assortment of fantastically rendered Pokemon that look even cooler than the original versions, and would inspire more awe and wonder if they were seen roaming around their natural habitats.

Just don't try to catch them all without wearing some sort of protection!

Bike Helmets Made From Cork And Wood

Anyone who wears a bike helmet while riding knows there aren't a lot of choices available in terms of style.

The main reason behind this lack of style is safety, as traditional plastic and foam helmets have always been considered the safest bet for protecting your skull.

Coyle Design and Build wants to change that misconception, with the introduction of safety helmets made out of sustainable woods, such as Maple and Oak, with a cork lining.

They carry the same safety rating as traditional helmets, yet have a unique style due to the natural pattern of wood grain, which means no two helmets will look alike.

And while the price tag is still a bit steep (around $350), they'll definitely make you the most stylish, and eco-friendly, biker on the road.

Screech Wants To Teach You How To Play Chess

(YouTube Link)

Dustin Diamond, aka Screech from the hit TV show Saved By The Bell, wants to teach you how to play chess.

Thankfully he's not trying to teach anyone how to be an actor, because as you can see from this collection of outtakes he isn't very good at acting like anyone but himself. You gotta love him for trying though!

Watch as he takes on stereotypical roles such as: hippie, pimp, sheik and court jester? I don't know about you, but I sure learned a lot about how not to make an instructional video!

Don't Be That Guy At The Gym

(YouTube Link)

Anyone who has worked out in a gym will already be familiar with these annoying examples of alpha maleness-guys who use the gym as a platform to show the world how "cool" they really are, working the room while getting under everyone's skin as they feebly attempt to stroke their own ego.

So, the next time you encounter one of these turkeys while you're trying to shed those extra pounds, you can call them out by name and tell them to hit the showers!

Attending An Outdoor Music Festival When...WTF?

The guy in this pic clearly wants to live under the sea, but lacks the gills needed to breathe underwater, so he has decided to wear a fishbowl, complete with live fish, over his head and breathe through a tube for the rest of his life.

Perhaps these fish are his only friends, and they've encouraged him to get out and meet people from his own species, but if that's his game he's going about it all wrong.

I give him credit for having a lot of nerve though, and for the fact that he had the foresight to wear goggles under his fishbowl, so he can still check out the ladies while he's making a scene at the music festival.

The Hobbit May Change How We Watch Movies

Peter Jackson plans on using his upcoming release The Hobbit to change the way we watch movies, by raising the overall frame rate to 48 frames per second, which is double the current industry standard and will make the pictures on the big screen flow as smooth as hot butter flavored topping.

So what's the downside? If theaters want to carry The Hobbit they'll have to upgrade their projection equipment by the December 14th release date or they'll be left behind when the world catches Hobbit fever.

However, if theaters fall into line with the new frame rate standard, directors such as James Cameron will be following in Mr. Jackson's footsteps, and 48 fps will soon become the norm for future releases.

Stop Motion Animation Short-PCKTKNFE

(YouTube Link)

PCKTKNFE is a fun stop motion short by friends James Donhour and Robert Kinsella, who spent six months putting together this animated ode to classic video games.

With music clearly influenced by 8-bit game soundtracks, and the clever use of bead sprites as video game characters who escape the console into the real world, PCKTKNFE is fun to watch even if you end up turning off the sound to avoid losing your mind.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Mad Max

Mad Max is one of the most iconic sci-fi movies of all time, and for good reason-it launched the career of Mel Gibson, brought a human edge to post-apocalyptic movies, and it put Australian cinema on the map for movie lovers across the globe.

But did you know that Mel came to his audition sporting a shiner from a bar fight he'd been in the night before, and that this rough look helped him get the role?

Hit the jump if you want to find out more fun facts about Mad Max, which will make you appreciate the long road Max had to take to get to Thunderdome.

A PSA To Promote Literacy Produced By The Roots

(YouTube Link)

Book People Unite is a new PSA to promote literacy that stars a colorful cast of characters from childhood classics such as Madeline and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow makes a guest appearance so you know this video is the real deal.

It's produced by The Roots, so the soundtrack is a cut above what you'd usually hear in a PSA, and it made me want to read my brains out! Hooray for literacy!

Epic Scale Samus Aran Papercraft Sculpture

Now this is an epic example of artistic nerdery!

At almost seven feet tall, this papercraft statue of Samus Aran from the video game franchise Metroid makes all other sculptures of Samus look like space junk, if only because this statue is made of nothing but paper, glue and lots of elbow grease.

It's based on Samus from Metroid Prime 2, and it sure looks like a prime example of awesomeness to me!

Trailer For Steampunk Martial Arts Movie Tai Chi O

(YouTube Link)

Martial artist who possess superhuman fighting skills, and steam powered weapons designed to even the odds for those less powerful, seem like a match made in action movie heaven, yet for some reason the two hardly ever come together.

Tai Chi O, the newest movie by the Huayi Brothers (of Kung Fu Hustle fame) and Director Stephen Fung, aims to bring steampunk to the martial arts genre in a major way, and it looks like a real blast!

A Twin Peaks Themed Art Show

Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, California is hosting a Twin Peaks themed group art exhibition to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show that began with the mystery of Laura Palmer's death and became about oh so much more.

The show will feature works from artistic outcasts such as Kozik (that's his creepy poster of Bob above), Bruce Bickford, who created a seriously cool model of the entire town 0f Twin Peaks, and some pieces by the mastermind behind the series David Lynch, to name just a few.

So, if you see the Log Lady wandering around Santa Monica you'll know why she's in town, and if you spot Bob walking down the street don't look him in the eyes!

Demonstration Of Computer Animation Software From 1971

(YouTube Link)

This retro video shows a demonstration of the animation software Key Frame, which was created by Marceli Wein and Nestor Burtnyk from the National Research Council of Canada.

The program, and the computer they're using, may look archaic by today's standards, but at the time they were the absolute cutting edge in computer animation.

And Key Frame played a pioneering role in the creation of vector art and animation programs, like Adobe Flash and Google SketchUp, that we know and love today.

Skyrim Mod Lets You Play As Pinkie Pie From My Little Pony

(YouTube Link)

The latest mod for the video game juggernaut Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a Bronies dream come true, because it turns your character into Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony.

Pink dragons are one thing, but playing as a cute little cartoon horse who goes around hacking people into bite sized bits would make me feel like a bit of a sicko.
