Bat Slapped - The Dark Hand Of Silence

Bat Slapped by PolySciGuy

The Bat reserves his patented face slap for special circumstances, situations where a quick smack to the face can diffuse the situation and prevent a full blown brawl. He doesn't like having to knock sense into people this way, but it's the fastest way to shut up a hysterical Robin or, in this case, stop some clown faced Joker from telling you his life story!

Slip on this hilarious Bat Slapped t-shirt by PolySciGuy and watch the laughs come rolling in, no laughing gas necessary!

Han With Friend - Rolling Solo Is No Fun

Han With Friend by Zarkan

We all know how Han acted solo- brash, cocky, a bit rude, and totally aloof even in the middle of a blaster battle, but we never got to see how he acted on his downtime. When he was hanging around the Falcon with his pal Chewie, tossing a few back in the cantina with Chewie, or happily jumping up and down with Chewie, Han was truly happy and looked more like a little boy than a bad boy!

See Solo in a whole new light on this Han With Friend t-shirt by Zarkan, it has the power to make people smile and put stars in the eyes of sci-fi fans.

The Future Of Digital Facial Enhancement

The future of facial enhancement in film will be digital, and fairly creepy…at least according to this video by Nobumichi Asai, which demonstrates the latest in digital makeup technology called Omote.

(Video Link)

Omote combines face tracking technology, motion capture concentrated on facial points rather than the whole body, with a digital image projection that changes and moves along with the face in real time.

It's fascinating to watch the facial projection change along with the soundtrack, and the video really shows the potential applications for this kind of digital facial enhancement in film, but how will this new technology affect those famous Hollywood faces? Only time will tell...

This Psychedelic Art Is Actually A Birdsong Visualized

Andy Thomas is an artist who has a healthy appreciation for the beauty of bird songs, and a gift for creating technological innovations that help bring the beauty of the natural world alive in the digital realm.

He has created a way to visualize bird songs, which when visualized look like something you’d see while tripping on peyote, or after getting hit too hard in the head.

(Video Link)

What you’re seeing is a product of a software that works much like previous visualizers WinAmp and that one nobody uses on iTunes, but this software is heavily influenced by Andy's own artistic vision, as you can see in this visualization of a crow's song:

(Video Link)

If Andy ever invents some Oculus Rift style 3D visor capable of rendering these birdsong visualizations in real-time people are suddenly going to become mighty interested in birdwatching!

Kid Scribbles On Wall, Creative Mom Fixes It

Kids love to share their newfound love of art with their family, but sometimes this freedom of artistic expression means the folks are left cleaning up major messes around the house.

Little artists spill on the carpet, mark on tabletops and smear fingerpaints all over the furniture, and in their young eyes those blank walls are just dying for an artistic makeover.

Usually when kids write on the walls it means the parents have to scrub the whole mess off, sometimes even repaint to cover up the mess, but one crafty mom went along with her child’s artistic streak instead of covering it up.

With a little design ingenuity, and some beautifully painted organic shapes, she was able to turn the scribbles into a bit of decorative flair, and her ingenious solution was shared with the world by Redditor jerschneid.

Upcoming Documentary Chronicles The Death Of Superman Lives

There was once going to be a movie called Superman Lives, directed by Tim Burton with a script written by Kevin Smith and featuring Nic Cage as Superman.

This crazy little movie might have turned out to be quite the sci-fi spectacle, a dark tale that would feature the death of Superman at the hands of Doomsday, but between unending script conflicts and budget cuts the film was left to die.

The Death of Superman Lives is a documentary produced by Jon Schnepp that tells the tale of this doomed superhero flick, with all the production team drama, amazing props and concept art, and Nic Cage in the Superman suit looking like a slightly crazed version of the beloved hero.

Pun Filled Pop Culture Street Art By JPS

There’s a really punny guy from the Uk running around adding a touch of street art wonder to city walls.

He’s a bit of a character, and every stencil or painting he puts up has something to say, generally something meant to make city life a bit more fun.

He calls himself JPS, and his enjoyable images and phrases are popping up on walls all over the place, for instance the interior walls of a sanitarium in Norway that was about to be demolished.

His addition of horror icons to the sanitarium walls seems very appropriate for such a spooky place, and you can almost see the little Black Metal kids in there drinking beer, breaking stuff and enjoying the impromptu street art gallery.

JPS is more than just a punster with a stencil and a spray can- he's a lover of pop culture, a skilled painter, and someone who is creatively critical of the very street art scene he actively participates in, poking fun at his fellow graffiteurs.

Some Of The Most Pointless Action Figures Ever Made

When toy companies keep pumping out product you end up with a bunch of figures that never should have seen the light of day, figures that are lacking one key word- action.

The Doctor Who craze ushered in by the series reboot resulted in a bunch of bad action figure releases, but no figure in the collection was more pointless than Destroyed Cassandra, the frame from which an animated flap of skin once hung:

The Waltons wasn’t a very exciting show, but even they got their own toy line, and for the sake of completion they released every member of the family- including Grandma and Grandpa Walton, the least action packed figures ever.

On the other hand, Starsky and Hutch was an action packed show worthy of having an action figure line, but releasing a figure for a drunken bearded man who never appeared on the show is the epitome of pointless:

And, last but certainly not least in terms of pointlessness, what action figure collection is complete without a side of beef? That's right- it's the iconic 1/2 cow Sylvester Stallone socked up real good in the movie Rocky.

Check out the rest of the figures that made io9's list of13 More of the Most Pointless Action Figures Ever Made, and see what your toy collection has been missing all along!

NYC Choking Posters Get An Artistic Makeover

State laws often require restaurants to have a sign clearly posted in the dining room that shows how to help someone who is choking, and in New York the official poster was designed by the New York Times own Steve Duenes.

Steve’s poster is pretty snazzy compared to most first aid posters, but New Yorkers are a fickle bunch, and when they grew bored of the same old choking poster artists came to the rescue with brand new renditions.

There’s one featuring Bea Arthur using the Heimlich maneuver on a unicorn by Jason O’Malley:

An action packed, Escape From New York themed poster by Phil Ashworth:

And Grey Jay’s dramatic dance themed Tango poster created for Malbec and Tango House in NYC, which shows how the act of saving a person's life can have a rhythm all its own:

These artsy choking posters are spicing up the world of restaurant safety, and giving folks something fun to look at while they thoroughly chew their bread.

Sid And Nancy - The Sitcom

Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen lived fast, died young and made quite an impression during Sid’s few years of fame, but their love never really rang true, and never really seemed worthy of dramatization.

John Simon Ritchie made himself into Sid after all, and Nancy made herself famous by hooking up with Sid, so it was far from a fairytale romance.

But if you believe in the existence of parallel universes then it's possible Sid and Nancy’s relationship could have easily played out like a romantic comedy in an another dimension.

(Video Link)

Video mashup raconteur Robert Jones paid a visit to this rom-com dimension, and he brought back this intro clip from the other side's most famous sitcom Sid & Nancy, with a theme song that sounds mighty familiar...

Photo Essay Reveals The Everyday Lives Of Trailer Park Folks

There’s one particular place of residence that changes the way people think about you at the mere mention that you live there, one park that most people in the surrounding neighborhoods don’t want to visit, with a name that sounds more fun than the reality contained within.

That place is the trailer park- where residents become marginalized, disregarded and generally cut off from the rest of society simply because they can’t afford to live anywhere else.

Photographer David Waldorf went in to a trailer park in Sonoma, California looking for a few good shots, and he came away with a photographic story to tell about the park's residents.

David's photo essay exposes trailer park residents for who they really are- human beings from a lower economic status living life their own unique way, in a microcosm that seems miles away from "regular" society yet exists right next door to us all.
