New York is a great place to take in the sights, whether you enjoy urban exploration, architecture, or simply people watching, but for some the sights simply aren’t complete without some added touches of their own. 

Kalen Hollomon was one of these visually unsatisfied observers, so he began creating his own spontaneous collage photos with his iPhone and a bunch of magazine clippings, sharing the hilarious images via Instagram.

Here's what Kalen has to say about his process:

“I will find an image in a magazine or a book that speaks to me and I’ll cut it out and have it with me. And I’ll usually have between one and five in a folder in my pocket. And when I’m out in the city I wait until I come across a situation that works with one. And I’ll get super excited and pull it out. It’s just waiting for the two worlds to come together.”

Kalen's version of New York City is fabulously dressed, raunchy and sometimes rude, and his unique photo collages give us a glimpse of a NYC that springs straight from Kalen's colorful mind.

It's said to have started with the punk pogo, then it went on to become hardcore slam dancing before the bastardized pronunciation of mash left us calling them mosh pits, but whatever you call them chances are you know the scene- a bunch of people at a hardcore or metal show thrashing about with reckless abandon. 

Photographer Emily Stein captures the feeling of being up close and personal with your fellow hard music lover in the pit in her photo series 'Saturday's Mosh', capturing today's punky teens in their natural environment.

Emily's images captures the chaos, emotion and general giddiness felt by her kid subjects as they take in a show, and they're likely to make those who've dwelled in their share of mosh pits feel nostalgiac.

Stop motion animators employ many different techniques, materials and styles to create the props, backgrounds and characters for their unique three dimensional films.

Some people make latex or silicone puppets for their films, others use paper, found objects, or wet clay to create their piece, but animator and director Mikey Please of Parabella Animation Studio used a rarely utilized material to create his latest short- Styrofoam.

Mikey combines neatly sculpted Styrofoam models by the hundreds and long-exposure lighting to tell the story of Marilyn Myller- a girl who is both creator and destroyer. 

It took Mikey and his partner Dan Ojari over a year to create this mesmerizing short, but it will only take you six minutes to take this animated trip through the mind of a young artist.

The Merc with a Mouth has gone from obscure secondary character, and admitted Deathstroke ripoff, to one mighty popular fellow, and he didn't get that way simply because readers identify with his chimichanga fetish. 

Deadpool hacked, shot and wisecracked his way up the Marvel Comics food chain, and somehow avoided catching his creator Rob Liefeld's tiny foot disease and becoming quite the strapping fellow- he's, like, Ryan Reynolds level hot, aside from his horrifying facial disfigurement.

He's edgy, he's hilarious, and he's definitely a bit of a kook, but where does a budding Deadpool fanatic start to explore this character's history, powers, and crucial comic book appearances?

Guys don’t usually wear makeup, although some are partial to wearing eyeliner or a bit of concealer, but the allure was simply too strong for these guys to resist, so they started their own makeup transformation movement on Instagram and Twitter using #makeuptransformation. 

The trick is to apply makeup to an ordinary face to make it look more like a famous face, like _rizzo_'s smoldering transformation into reality TV star Chris Jenner:

Sometimes the transformations are complete, like shaquiiii’s full coverage metamorphosis into singer/model Ciara:

Other times the photos are more like a walkthrough of what must be done to become the celeb, like bigfansofginuwine’s steps to becoming R&B singer Tyrese:

The internet is full of first person footage these days, whether it’s fun action footage or boring everyday stuff, because everyone loves their GoPro cameras or their Google glasses, and they’re dying to share their video view of the world with the world.

However, that footage is usually way too long, with lots of camera shake and bounce, so even when it’s shortened into a time lapse the footage is really hard to watch.

A new Microsoft Research Project is concerned with creating a solution to those first person footage problems, and they’re about to introduce an app that will allow users to create hyperlapse videos that run at 10x the speed of the original video without all that shake.

You'll be able see the world through someone else's eyes without feeling sick to your stomach, although you still may feel a bit queasy after watching some of those stunt videos...

Towns are often built without taking into account environmental factors like landslides, soil erosion, and flooding, which means towns across the globe are going to end up underwater one day.

But sometimes this flooding is deliberate, and innocent towns are caught in the path of the machines of progress and drowned without a second thought.

For about twenty years this was all that could be seen of a church in Potosi, Venezuela, since the whole town had been flooded to build a hydroelectric dam in 1985.

The rest of the town was destroyed in the process, but the church's brick construction kept it (mostly) alive and intact, and thanks to a drought caused by El Niño the church, and land where the town once stood, was uncovered in 2010.

This tower from a church built in the 14th century is all that can be seen of the village Graun in South Tyrol, Italy, a village of 163 homes which was deliberately flooded by the Montecatini company to create Lake Reschen.

Apparently the Montecatini company didn't see any point in preserving a part of Italy's history, but hopefully the colonies of Sea Monkeys that now call this underwater village home will take better care of the place.

The saying goes "behind ever great man is a greater woman", and even though this saying is considered a bit outdated these days the phrase often rang true throughout history.

Take Walt Disney for example- his wife is almost never talked about anymore, and even though many people know the names of their children who later took over the company far fewer know her name, or the impact she had on the creation of the Disney empire.

Some folks may know that Lillian is the one who actually came up with the name Mickey, because she felt Mortimer sounded too pompous, but did you know that there's a Disneyland Railroad car and a paddle steamer replica in Florida's Downtown Disney named after her?

The train car's called the Lilly Belle and the steamer is called The Empress Lilly, both named in honor of Walt's one true love.
