When the TARDIS arrives, with its signature whirring sound and flashing light, those who have traveled with the Doctor know they're about to be whisked off on another fantastic adventure, but a recent TARDIS sighting may change the way we think about that blue police box.

This TARDIS shaped toilet is called the Who Loo, and it recently opened for business on the bike path between Bristol and Bath, the brainchild of Whovian Justin Hoggans, who owns the Warmley Waiting Room Cafe. 

It features a light on top that lets everyone know when the toilet is occupied, a switch inside the cafe to trigger that famous whirring sound when people pose for a picture, and looks just like the Time Lord approved time machine.

One thing it's lacking is privacy, and I'd hate to be seated at that nearby table when the Doctor adjourns to his study!

Humans just can’t get enough of their dogs, and some people are so proud of their pampered pooches that they hold canine beauty pageants to decide which dog is the fairest in the land.

Photographer Sophie Gamand captures all the poshness, pageantry and pooch attitude of these beastly beauty parades in her series Dog Pageant, which focuses on "small dog owners in New York City and the dog-oriented events that their lives revolve around".

Sophie's wonderful images capture the personality and attitude of the canine contestants, as well as the lavish outfits their owners create in hopes of taking home the title of top dog.

New York City hosted its first dog beauty pageant in 2013, with 30 contestants competing in categories like evening wear and talent, but this pageant isn't all about the cute contestants- it's also a great way to raise money for animal charities.

But unless you're born to travel through time, or happen to be a mechanical genius with a firm grasp of quantum physics, the first step to actually jumping into the timestream is to get your hands on a time machine.

However, time machines don't always come built and ready to go, sometimes you gotta get in there and build it yourself:

Movie props demand big bucks at auction, especially if they’re iconic props from equally iconic films, and those who choose to collect movie memorabilia and props are used to paying a hefty price for each piece.

Because of the cost of collecting, and storing or displaying, movie props they're put up for auction from private sellers all the time, and some really amazing stuff inevitably makes its way onto Ebay.

Joe MacFarland from Ebay Stories shared an infographic that reveals the most expensive movie props ever sold, many of which were featured on Ebay.

It's no surprise that props like Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Marilyn Monroe's dress from The Seven Year Itch and the Delorean from Back To The Future have sold for a more than modest sum, but I was surprised to see Wilson the volleyball from Castaway sold for forty grand!

Some chefs will tell you that their food’s visual appeal is just as important as its flavor, which usually means it’s not going to taste very good, but the meals in this series of photos by TQ Lee are not only great looking- they're inedible!

The delicious looking dishes in TQ's photo series "Inedible" are made out of fun stuff like phone cords, teddy bear fleece, and LEGO bricks, but they look so good you'd never know

TQ masterfully combines colors and textures so each "dish" closely resembles the real meal he's referencing, but his dishes have more visual appeal than real food, and far more exotic flavors.

No matter where you stand on the issue of smoking everyone can agree that children shouldn’t smoke, and seeing a little kid puffing away on a cigarette just looks wrong.

There are so many kids smoking cigarettes in Indonesia these days that it's becoming a national epidemic, and at the same time oddly accepted by people who just look the other way as kids smoke like chimneys.

Photographer Michelle Siu shot a series of portraits entitled “Marlboro Boys” that focuses on the huge underage smoking problem in Indonesia, a problem recently made public when a two-year-old named Aldi Rizal kicked a two pack a day habit.

"Marlboro Boys" is a cautionary tale, a beautiful collection of striking images, and an effective way to expose the temptation Indonesian children are facing thanks to marketing aimed at teens and the highly addictive nature of cigarettes.

Most online news sources use the term “cosplay” to mean simply the act of wearing a costume, meaning cosplayers, who craft their own costumes and accessories, are unfairly lumped in with models wearing professionally made costumes.

It's just one of those things you have to accept when reading articles online, like the overuse of Steampunk or calling anything pixelated 8-Bit, and we cannot forget that the costumes are the point of these articles after all. 

This collection of creepy cosplay features a few professionally costumed models and a bunch of cosplayers, and it's a good source of inspiration for those who like their Halloween costumes horrifying, or a cosplayer trying to decide what to wear to the next convention.

Artist and inventor of creatively kooky implements Dominic Wilcox has come up with some extremely unique ways to make our everyday lives more convenient, and a bit more interesting, with his whimsical, yet fully functional, inventions.

Dominic’s mind works in wonderful ways, always looking for a new solution to simple problems like cooling down a cuppa tea, or shaking someone's hand without touching skin:

Gloves that fit like a glove because they're made from a mold of your hand, now that's an invention sure to make the world a warmer, and creepier, place to live.

We've featured a few of Dominic's creatively ridiculous inventions here on Neatorama before, but with the recent release of Dominic's book Variations On Normal we're given new insight into his creative process, like the fact that every idea starts with a sketch.

I'm guessing the sketch for this side sleeping bed started, like many murder investigations, with a chalk outline...

Contrary to popular belief, and the mystique cultivated by some artists, painters don't generally paint without some sort of reference available.

Whether it's a photograph of the subject, sketches they've created for the painting, or some other form of visual reference they can look at as they paint, there are very few artists who work without reference.

Iconic painter Norman Rockwell was no stranger to using reference photos in the creation of his works, and even though most of his paintings look like a spontaneous moment captured in time they were often based on carefully staged photographs. 

Here's one of his famous paintings- The Tattoo Artist:

And here's the reference photo he used for the sailor getting tattoed, a profile shot of Rockwell's neighbor Clarence Decker, who managed to have an even dopier expression on his face in the photo than he does in the painting!
