Meet The Designer Cats With Wild Blood

Breeders who want to create a new and original breed start their genetic mix 'n' match wherever the jaguars and servals prowl.

Designer cat breeds, like the Bengals and Savannahs, are born from a breeder's desire to own wild cats, so they mate typical domesticated breeds with wild felines until they achieve the desired look.

Jean Mill was the first American breeder to breed Bengals, a cross between domestic cats and wild Asian leopard cats, and her cool looking designer cat continues to inspire breeders to mix it up and see what happens.

Vox created this informative video to trace the roots of designer cat breeding in America and show what it takes to make those "small cats that look like big cats" that drive pet people crazy.

Bizarre Books You Won't Believe Actually Exist

When bibliophiles go out looking for a new book to add to their collection they tend to skip the gimmicky covers and go for titles/authors they know, or those which have been recommended to them.

But there's one slightly gimmicky book out there which needs no recommendation and yet is likely to be recommended by all after being purchased- How To Talk To Your Cat About Gun Safety.

Zachary Auburn's hilarious spoof scored high ratings from both gun nuts and cat nuts:

Promising review: “I decided to order this because my cat was out of control; promiscuous, a gun nut, and using the internet unsafely. I read her this book over the course of a month, and did some activities. I now have a well adjusted, polite, safe cat who enjoys life the way it was meant to be. Thank you.” —Amazon Customer

How To Survive A Garden Gnome Attack is another must read book if you live in an area heavily populated by garden gnomes, because knowledge is power and power is safety...or something like that.

But enough with the comedy, let's get serious about the mental benefits of reading books- books teach us stuff, and this knowledge can help us master new skills and even start a new career.

Or you can buy How To Be A Drug Dealer by author 673126 and learn how to start a career in crime from a very reputable and proud source who has a knack for encouraging people to commit felonies.

Pregnant Subway Passenger Gives Guy A Trophy For Doing The Right Thing

Giving your seat up to pregnant women, the disabled and the elderly is the decent thing for an  able bodied individual to do when riding on the subway, but these days common decency is often left at the station.

However, there are still plenty of respectful and caring people out there who will do the right thing and give up their seat- and production designer/mom Yvonne Lin thinks they deserve an award.

Yvonne created this really cool statue to give to the first guy who gave up his seat on the subway to her, and the lucky winner was father of two Ricky Barksdale:

“He was staring at his phone,” Lin said. “He looked up and looked around and was like, ‘Holy crap, you’re pregnant! You need to have a seat.’”

Ricky was proud to receive the award but also had this to say to guys who don't give up their seats:

“It was a nice gesture of her, but it’s also sad for my male counterparts to allow something like this to happen,” he said, adding, “If you clearly see a visible pregnant woman, you’re okay to stand up. She needs that more than you.”

“I just hope that this story motivates others to do the right thing,” he said. “Whether they’re pregnant, disabled, elderly, just do the right thing and be a decent human being.”

Stunning Portraits Of Famous Pop Culture Characters

Famous faces starring in some of the most memorable roles in pop culture are popular subjects in the world of fan art, but few artists are able to capture both the personality of the actor and the character they're playing.

This leaves their artwork lacking life, but the digital art portraits created by Russian artist Aleksei Vinogradov are full of colorful life with personality to spare.

Aleksei's portraits star famous actors playing equally famous roles, and many also include strange little critters serving as the characters' pets, as if the portraits themselves weren't appealing enough already!

Musician Cameos On 1980s TV Shows

The incredible music that came out in the 80s was a huge part of what made it the most radical decade of the 20th century, and in the 80s it wasn't uncommon to see musicians trying their hand at acting.

In fact, some musicians were so good at acting their appearances became the stuff of TV legend, like the time Phil Collins played crooked game show host Phil the Shill on Miami Vice.

(YouTube Link)

It's weird how good Phil Collins is in this role, but you know what's just plain strange in every way? The fact that the B-52s appeared on the soap opera Guiding Light back in 1982. What was that all about?!

(YouTube Link)

And speaking of strange pop culture juxtapositions- Boy George appeared on an episode of The A-Team called Cowboy George- it doesn't get much more 80s than that!

Thomas The Tank Engine Gets A Flamethrower Upgrade

Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends always seemed a bit creepy to me, especially when you consider those talking trains will someday rise up against their human oppressors and make a bloody mess on the tracks.

So why on Earth would a human want to enhance Thomas by giving him robo-legs and a frickin' flamethrower?

Because the human in question is mad model builder Peter Sripol, and he loves to play with deadly toys...as long as he's holding the remote control!

Guy Journals His Depressing Trip To IKEA With His Wife

It's no surprise that home decorators, builders and crafters love IKEA, because the stuff they sell is easy to modify, paint and link together so the possibilities are endless.

But if you're not a builder, home furnishings fan or Imgur user fantafano's wife then IKEA can feel like one megabore of a megastore and a giant trap, one that provides food so you never have to leave.

Fantafano's wife was extremely enthustiastic about their trip to IKEA even though she apparently had no idea what she needed to buy from the store that never ends.

But the longer they're in the store the more of a minefield IKEA becomes for poor fantafano...

Meet The Guy Who Perfectly Recreated An 80s ShowBiz Pizza Place In Rural Mississippi

People who went to themed eateries like Showbiz Pizza Palace as a kid have fond memories of watching the robot band The Rock-afire Explosion while eating crappy pizza and trying to win enough tickets for a big prize.

So when all Showbiz Pizza Place locations either closed or changed into Chuck E. Cheese's in 1992 fans of the Explosion were in shock, since part of their childhood had just beeen scrapped.

But 38-year-old Damon Breland wasn't ready to let those fond memories go, so he started buying up all the animatronics, interior decor and costumes he could find from the good old days of ShowBiz and Chuck E. Cheese's.

(YouTube Link)

Now Damon's collection resides in an old abandoned gas station in Sandy Hook, Mississippi he renamed Smitty's Super Service Station, where lucky fans can go to see the Rock-afire perform like they did decades ago.

Damon's collection even includes The KING from Chuck E. Cheese's, which used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid for some reason. Now they all make my skin crawl...in a good way!

Artist Repackages Popular Junk Food For Hipsters

The Hipster movement has been all about craft- hand crafted clothing, craft beer and finely crafted food and cocktails made with raw, locally sourced and organic ingredients.

This craft mentality means most Hipsters don't go for packaged junk food like Twinkies, Slim Jims and Fruit by the Foot, so they're missing out on the best/worst crappy food products available today.

But if artist Dan Meth's rebranding project catches on Hipsters may soon start trading in their craft fruit leather for a tin of Fruit Par La Metre!

Dan's rebranded packages appeal to the Hipster's pretentious sensibilities and their love of new stuff in old timey looking packaging, so they can finally see what the crunchberries craze is all about.

Leveling Up In Real Life

Roleplaying game players have one distinct advantage over the uninitiated- we know how to approach life's trials and tribulations as part of an epic adventure.

We improve our character by raising our stats and learning new skills, we take on side quests to raise money for new gear, and we look for any opportunity to gain experience points by exploring the map.

But, as this Draw Write Play comic shows, the RPGers greatest asset is our ability to abandon a quest and still level up!

A Guide To Becoming The Life Of The Party

Becoming the life of the party used to be so easy, all you had to do was toss a few back with your fellow partygoers, make 'em laugh by telling some great stories, then you slipped a lampshade on your head and whammo! You were a hit!

But today's parties are far more complex and the crowds more diverse, so you've got to update your playbook if you're gonna make a big impression on your fellow party people.

Illustrator H. Caldwell Tanner created this easy to follow guide to teach you party tricks that'll make you a hit, like the updated drunken sing-a-long now known as the lushy listen-a-long. Much better!

Parents Are Taking The "Exact Instructions Challenge" With Hilarious Results

Everybody knows how to "make" a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, a banana split or a bowl of cereal, but could you write out instructions clear enough to teach someone else how to make them?

Of course you could, or at least it seems easy enough, but kids have a harder time clearly instructing others, and if you follow their instructions exactly things are bound to go wrong.

That's the premise of the Exact Instructions Challenge, which was started by Josh Darnet when he asked his kids to write out instructions for a PB&J and made this adorable video.

(YouTube Link)

Josh's Challenge struck a chord with other parents, who eventually forced fun dad Bottlerocket to "make the ultimate sacrifice" and follow instructions from his kids on how to make a banana split.

(YouTube Link)

As long as none of the dishes involve cooking this challenge will continue to be fun, but if any of the dishes include chicken things are going to take a dark turn...

How To Live On A Boat Without Leaving The City

Living on a boat is a dream shared by very few people, since the accomodations are tight, the amenities are few and the comforts of home are lacking, but it does beat sleeping on the streets.

However, if you've always dreamed of living that boat life then it may surprise you to hear that you can actually live on a boat without leaving the city- and it may be cheaper than renting.

But before you stop homing or apartmenting and start boating you need to find out a few things, firstly whether you have access to slips or moorings or both, and whether it's legal to liveaboard in your city.

Docks are expensive but they often have electricity and water hookups, and access to bathrooms and showers and such, while moorings are cheap but leave you far from shore.

Once you figure out the legality and location of your boat life adventure you have to decide one more thing- whether to rent or buy a boat.

There are many boat owners out there who are willing to rent out their docked boats to tenants, but your new boatlord may cut your life at sea short if they choose to evict. On the other hand buying a new floating home can cost you some serious coin...

This Light Bulb Has Been Burning Since 1901

People are making more of an effort to conserve energy these days, and ever since incandescent bulbs have been replaced with CFL, LED and halogen lighting our homes has become less wasteful.

But that doesn't mean all old bulbs are trash, because the carbon filament bulb made by French electrical engineer Adolphe A. Chaillet above has been burning since 1901- and it's still going strong.

They call it the Centennial Light, and it hangs in the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department's Station #6 where it has been shedding around 4 watts of light for well over a hundred years.

When the bulb reached 1 million hours of service they threw it a party to celebrate, and "bulb tourists" drop by the station all the time to stare at the bulb that would not die.

So what are the guys at the Livermore Fire Station planning to do if and when the Centennial Light dies?

While nothing is official yet, they want to have a full funeral procession through town, finishing at the historical society where the bulb will be displayed in a resting place of honor.

Murmurs of a replacement bulb also abound. A supposedly unused Shelby model just like the current centennial bulb has been acquired by a party who may be willing to part with it when the time comes.

Some Of The Best Home Organizers Available On Amazon

Spring cleaning is more than just a cliched yearly tradition- it's a time to remodel, repair, reduce, recycle and reorganize all of the stuff in our homes, and to me reorganizing my home is the most fun.

Finding a place to neatly store and organize all of your stuff means you can have more stuff without feeling like a hoarder, and maximizing storage potential in the limited space you have.

I love to cook, so I have an ever growing collection of pots and pans but very little space for them all, which is why this Pan Rack Organizer appeals to me.

And if you think B&Bs are the only places that can have perfectly organized tea bags think again, because this TeaStand Tea Bag Caddy brings that B&B tea tidiness to your home!

But what about those two organizers at the top of the post?

That's a Bedside Storage Pocket and an OuTera Broom and Mop Organizer. No big deal, they're just two organizers that will totally change your life...
