Some radio controlled vehicle fanatics feel the old adage "the bigger, the better" rings true in terms of their favorite hobby, but those fans of supersizing probably didn’t have a vehicle as large as a 5.2 ton Blackhawk helicopter in mind!

The guys in this photo aren’t your average R/C enthusiasts, they’re engineers from Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and they get to do totally boring stuff for a living,  like playing with Blackhawk helicopters via remote control.

Unfortunately, these guys aren’t making the newest consumer R/C product, they’re working on a serious project with real military applications:

In cooperation with the U.S. Army, Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. has successfully demonstrated optionally piloted flight of a Black Hawk helicopter, a significant step toward providing autonomous cargo delivery functionality to the U.S. Army.

According to Mark Miller, Sikorsky Vice President of Research & Engineering "the autonomous Black Hawk helicopter provides the commander with the flexibility to determine crewed or un-crewed operations, increasing sorties while maintaining crew rest requirements. This allows the crew to focus on the more 'sensitive' operations, and leaves the critical resupply missions for autonomous operations without increasing fleet size or mix."

Turning taxidermied animals into a compelling curiosity was Walter Potter’s specialty, and his wondrous animal creations allowed the once lively animals to play on for the rest of their afterlives.

Walter Potter became interested in taxidermy at an early age, and by the time of his death in 1890 he was a household name among taxidermy enthusiasts, and nowadays Walter's pieces can fetch as much as $35,000 apiece at auction.

Walter’s whimsical taxidermy dioramas feature animals doing everyday things like playing croquet, taking notes in class or joining their fellow rats in a game of dominos, and the figures are posed so perfectly you can almost see their little furry arms moving and their expressions changing as they play the day away.

The Bay Area is home to Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose, three big cities that have been home to a vibrant street art scene since the early days of bombing trains and rocking end to end burners on the sides of buildings, and yet very little is known about the early days of Bay Area graffiti.

This fascinating documentary by KQED Arts is called Bay Area Graffiti: The Early Years, hosted by street artist NEON and it attempts to peel back the veil of secrecy a bit to show us the brightly painted early days of aerosol art in those cities by the bay.

Commemoration of the deceased comes in many forms, from flowers on the site of their passing to murals painted in their honor to those memorial stickers you see on car windows, but one woman has made keeping memories alive into an artform.

Her name is Ayano Tsukimi, and she spends her days creating life-sized dolls of the deceased, which she places all around her village Nagoro, located in eastern Iya, Japan. Ayano places the dolls in locations which were important to the subjects, posing them just right and decorating the background to properly set the scene.

Strangely, her works are not limited to the deceased, as she creates dolls for those who have moved away from the town as well, apparently in an attempt to keep her small town populated.

Why can't those unbelievably bad actors in infomercials ever seem to perform even the most mundane tasks without the help of some fancy newfangled product?

Is it because working as a product shill has made them lose their minds, or is there some other sinister force at work in their lives?

The easiest explanation- they’re actors paid to follow a script to the letter, and if that means pretending you don’t know how to properly swab your ears, or brush your hair, without causing yourself excruciating pain then so be it.
