World's Largest No-Kill Animal Sanctuary Has Saved Over 24,000 Felines

Running a no-kill animal shelter is a tough job, and it goes without saying that many of those furry friends who are rescued will be staying at the sanctuary for the rest of their lives, but when you run the world’s largest no-kill cat sanctuary you must be up to your neck in furballs and dirty litter boxes!

The Cat House on the Kings, California has earned the title of world’s largest no-kill animal sanctuary the hard way- by saving the lives of over 24,000 felines since opening in 1992.

The Cat House was founded by Lynea Lattanzio, a cat lover who has no problem tending to the 700 cats who still call the sanctuary home, and her comfy kitty estate was captured in all its purrfect glory by photographer Christina Gandolfo in an effort to bring attention to the shelter, which relies on donations to stay in business.

This Man Wants To Steal Your Chocolate Bars

There are some criminals so despicable, so insatiably greedy, that they should probably be locked up for the rest of their lives.

This man is not one of those thieves, but if you own a candy store you’d better watch out. Authorities in Thailand arrested this tattoed thief with 35 pilfered chocolate bars in his possession, officially making him the sweetest thief who ever lived.

Maybe this man knows about a burgeoning chocolate black market we don’t know about yet, maybe he has a sweet tooth that causes him to jones like a junkie, whatever the case he must regret not eating the evidence!

Wisest Life Lessons Taught By Bob's Burgers Star Gene Belcher

Gene Belcher may seem like the wrong guy to turn to for advice, sagely wisdom or anything that doesn’t involve keyboards making fart noises or beefsquatch lore, but being the son of Bob, who is the star of Bob’s Burgers, kinda makes him the star of the show too.

When Gene speaks listen closely, because he’s got some pretty brilliant life philosophies, and that boy really knows how to live!

To live like Gene is to live stress free and full of burgers, and philosophies don’t come much more relaxed than Gene’s unique perspective on life, but if you don't like learning life lessons from cartoon characters Gene's animated wisdom might not work for you...

Creator Of Waltz With Bashir Is Back With New Animated Feature- The Congress

(Video Link)

The films of director Ari Folman bring an interesting new angle to the animation/film industry- his previous release Waltz With Bashir is an animated documentary about the aftermath of the Sabra and Shatila Massacre in 1982, his earlier film Saint Clara was a unique take on magical realism, and he’s bringing back old school animation techniques that give his movies a unique look.

His latest live action/animation hybrid is called The Congress, based on the Stanislaw Lem novel The Futurological Congress, and it stars Robin Wright as a fictional version of herself.

Here's the official synopsis:

More than two decades after catapulting to stardom with The Princess Bride, an aging actress (Robin Wright, playing a version of herself) decides to take her final job: preserving her digital likeness for a future Hollywood. Through a deal brokered by her loyal, longtime agent (Harvey Keitel) and the head of Miramount Studios (Danny Huston), her alias will be controlled by the studio, and will star in any film they want with no restrictions. In return, she receives healthy compensation so she can care for her ailing son and her digitized character will stay forever young. Twenty years later, under the creative vision of the studio’s head animator (Jon Hamm), Wright’s digital double rises to immortal stardom. With her contract expiring, she is invited to take part in “The Congress” convention as she makes her comeback straight into the world of future fantasy cinema.

Everyday Astronaut

Buying your very own space suit is quite an accomplishment, but it’s really a shame that the suit is probably going to be left to hang for the rest of its life in a closet or display case.

A guy named Tim Dodd, who also happens to be a redditor and photographer, got his hands on a spacesuit but he didn’t hang it up- he put the suit on and took an amazingly fun set of photos he calls “Everyday Astronaut”.

Tim is living the dream in his orange suit and dome helmet, and whether he's kicking back sippin' on some brewskis or trying to cook dinner in low gravity everything's a little more epic since that spacesuit came into his life.

Japanese Psychedelic Bands From The 1960s

Japanese musicians have always held a special place in their hearts for American music, and rock & roll has made a particularly large impact on their homegrown music scene, but one of the elements commonly associated with the rock scene is totally taboo in Japan- the drugs.

The psychedelic music scene in North America and Europe was full of experimentation with drugs, but Japanese psych bands couldn’t let it all hang out like the American bands they were emulating, and their sound was heavily formulated, and policed, by the record companies.

This fascinating collection of Japanese psychedelic album covers, coupled with tons of interesting facts about this niche music scene, will help expand your mind on the subject without any lingering side effects...

Incredibly Cool Pacific Rim Jaeger Cosplay

The Jaeger suits used by human forces to defend the planet against attacking kaiju monsters in the sci-fi flick Pacific Rim are all over two hundred feet tall, and these cosplayers can't be more than about six and a half feet tall, but they don’t want to be bothered with minor details like scale because when they're wearing their incredibly cool looking armor suits they feel like they’re twenty two stories tall.

These amazing Jaeger cosplayers are part of the C4 Team from Thailand, and they not only dress like kaiju punching mecha- they battle with any kaiju they come across at cons. Now that's what I call dedication to a role!

Ten Offensive Ads From The Last Ten Years

If you think advertisers are done putting out ads which are offensive, featuring racism, sexism, and a general disregard for the standards set in place to avoid turning consumers off to their product, think again, because poorly conceived and totally offensive ads are still rolling out of ad agencies from around the world.

In the last ten years companies like Nike, Groupon and even some government agencies have been releasing insensitive ads that will make you wonder what the heck they were thinking when they made the poor decision to run these ads.

This 2006 ad from the Tokyo Metro Government about earthquake safety shows that some ad agencies haven't moved past the use of racist Little Black Sambo style characters in advertising:

In this case the black caricature characters are meant to represent bumbling Americans who are shown the "right way" by the smarter white Americans, but they must have known it wouldn't fly because they subsequently edited the images so they feature only white American and Asian characters.

And then there's this Groupon ad which essentially belittles the plight of the Tibetan people:

The Playfully Critical Works Of Eric Yahnker

The main focus of multimedia artist Eric Yahnker’s bold and colorful works seems to be the inherent absurdity of modern culture, with the far too pervasive influence of pop culture and the reduction of many powerful symbols into an ironic mockery of their former selves.

Eric’s chosen mediums range from colored pencil to wood, and his works make statements which range from hilariously ridiculous to thought provoking and a bit sad.

Put them all together in a gallery setting you’ve got a show that "strives to navigate the muddy, frequently strained gulf between the reception of recent US affairs at home and abroad."

His solo exhibition, aptly entitled Sticks & Drones, is currently on display at London's Paradise Row gallery.

Photo Series Featuring Spellbinding Death Masks

When British photographer Rankin teamed up with Beauty Editor Andrew Gallimore to create a mesmerizing series of images entitled Epitaph the name hinted at the underlying theme but did not reveal the visual splendor that awaited the viewer.

The theme is death, brought to visual life through a collection of extremely diverse death masks inspired by Mexico’s Dia De Los Muertos, with a little KISS and horror movie inspiration thrown in for good measure.

The bright pop of the masks sits in stark contrast to the shadowy models covered in black paint, each one identically anonymous beneath the mask created to celebrate a time when they lived in full color.

The First Thing You Do When You Land On Mars - Phone Home

(Video Link)

What’s the first thing you do when you reach the surface of the planet Mars? You phone home, of course, and when you get through to Earth you expect to be greeted by excitement and praise, but if you're anything like the hapless astronaut in this animated short by The Brothers McLeod entitled "Phone Home" you'll be greeted with nothing but disappointment!

Oh well, being one of the first astronauts to land on Mars trumps being married any day!

Behind The Scenes Photos From David Lynch's DUNE

David Lynch's film adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi novel Dune is one of those movies people either love or hate, there seems to be no middle "meh" ground when it comes to this particular big screen adaptation.

Even Lynch's feelings are torn over this unique flick, claiming it was made around the time he "started selling out", but those who enjoy watching his dark vision of Dune dream of someday owning a sandworm of their own, and maybe one of those sweet black stillsuits...

Here's a collection of behind-the-scenes photos that really show all the hard work, massive sets and amazing fabricated props that went into this epic production, plus you get to see a young David Lynch!

(Images Via Greg de Stefano/Imgur)

The cosplay community is full of imaginative, creative, and talented folks who put their heart and soul into costuming, using their wide variety of skills to create spot on versions of their favorite characters.

Cosplayers live to play roles, and create new characters for their geeky fans to adore, and one of the newest and most fun original incarnations are the Bunnies, based on the Playboy Bunnies of the past.

We've seen the Avengers and Doctor Who themed Bunnies, but these Gotham Bunnies (based on the artwork of Oskar Vega) take the concept to a whole new level of awesome!

These Billboard Fails Are Bad For Business

Billboards are generally placed where they can be seen by as many people as possible, and their high visibility makes effective ads stronger and billboard fails, well, they’re extra bad and have no place to hide!

Offering your funeral home services? Don’t include a bad pun in your tagline. Advertising the local news? Don’t include a headline, unless you want your reporters to come off looking like sickos. Placing two ads side by side? Be careful what your new doublewide image says about your product, or your viewing public might get a bit sore.
