Andrew Baker is one of the amazing concept artists who worked on Peter Jackson’s big screen adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, and he helped bring the greedy dragon Smaug to life through his amazing digital artwork.

This collection of alternate designs for Smaug may have been left behind well before production, but they show the evolution of the final character design that made it into the movie The Desolation of Smaug, and they give us a rare insight into the concept creation process from animal influence to working 3d model.

Andrew is part of the WETA Workshop, and his concept art for Smaug is part of the recently released art book The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug: Smaug: Unleashing The Dragon.

A clever typographic artist, with some serious Sharpie skills, by the name of Rob Draper has found a fun use for all those discarded paper cups found lying around your local coffee shop- he created a series of artworks called "Coffee Time".

There’s a certain stigma attached to being a nine-year-old who can’t ride a bike, and people often assume that you don't know how because there’s something wrong with you or your family, which can make you feel like you don’t fit in with the rest of the world.

I was one of those kids who chose to ride around on a skateboard and scooter rather than learning how to ride a bike, and as young Sabre Norris of NSW Australia proves in this amazing video riding a bike isn’t the ultimate skill a kid can possess.

This video documents her 75^th attempt to do a 540 on her skateboard, the one where she finally successfully completed the trick, and Sabre's skills demonstrate how amazingly skilled some young athletes can be.

You’ve probably seen a photo of the massive statue of Christ the Redeemer located in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and you may have even thought you’d like to pay a visit to the site one day, but you probably never seriously considered making your way to the top of the hundred and thirty foot tall statue to take a selfie.

The madman in this photo is Lee Thompson, photographer and co-founder of the Flash Pack, who was in Rio covering the World Cup when he was given special permission by the Brazilian tourism board to snap the pic of a lifetime atop the iconic statue.

Here's how Lee was able to capture this amazing image:

With the assistance of two high-wire workmen, (and armed with Go Pro cameras) we entered through scaffolding mounted on the feet and crawled in circles up 12 flights of rickety stairs that seemed to get narrower with every step.

Twenty minutes into the climb I reached the heart of the Christ made from beautiful Mosaics. After what felt like an eternity of pressing heat and pitch darkness, we finally reached the small compartment in Christ's shoulder. I grabbed the rope and pulled myself along the smooth soapstone up into the head of the statue where we carefully opened the hatch. My heart was pounding with excitement and I couldn't wait another second.
