Guinea Pig Confidential- They Love Star Wars

Guinea pigs generally don’t care what’s playing on their human’s television sets, whether it’s animal related or not they just don’t seem to be that interested in tv and movies. Guinea pigs enjoy the finer things in life, like art and literature, but their one guilty pop culture pleasure is Star Wars cosplay.

This fact was discovered by WeLoveFine artist Timothy Lim, who goes by the stealthy handle NinjaInk, as he played with his Star Wars action figures around his cute little guinea pig pals. The guinea pigs quickly threw on costumes and joined in the fun, playing their roles with the dignified air of a Shakespearean actor, and now they're ready to become net famous for more than just their good looks.

X-Men And Batman Characters Dressed As Hipsters

When artist Phil Sevy found out the mutant Quicksilver was going to be dressed like a hipster in the upcoming X-Men movie Days Of Future Passed he was inspired to come up with some hipster heroes of his own, but just because someone did it in a movie doesn’t make it right!

Phil created a set for Batman and one for the X-Men, and though his artwork is slick as can be these might be the most horrifying comic book redesigns ever.

Hipster Nightcrawler would be mighty annoying, constantly teleporting in to steal your PBR and change the music to Mumford & Sons, and something about the hipster look makes Wolverine look like he's been declawed.

Recipe For Perfect Family- Two Parts Plastic, One Part Photographer

Photographer Suzanne Heintz has the perfect American family- a husband who’s a snazzy dresser and so fit people tell him he should model clothes, yet actually listens to Suzanne when she complains about how long it took her to get her nails done; a daughter who doesn’t scream or throw fits, who is also a snazzy dresser and goes wherever Suzanne tells her to go because she’s mounted on a stand.

And then there’s Suzanne, the woman behind this great American family- a self professed spinster who got tired of getting grief about her lack of a husband and child, so she went and bought herself one of each and has the photos to prove it, part of a series called Life Once Removed.

Now traveling is a breeze, and much cheaper because she only pays one fare, although packing up her family can be a bit of a pain.

Why'd she create the perfect plastic family? Head over to Beautiful/Decay to find out more!

Billy Was Buried Doing What He Loved Most- Riding His Harley

It’s the dream professed by most diehard motorcycle enthusiasts- to be buried on their bikes, doing what they loved in life for the rest of their afterlife.

However, making this dream a reality is quite an undertaking, what with the giant hole digging and the building of a coffin big enough to house both dead guy and bike. But if you’re a lucky motorheaded son-of-a-gun like Billy Standley from Mechanicsburg, Ohio not even death can keep you from riding your prized 1967 Harley Davidson motorcycle. WIth the help of his family, and nearly two decades of planning Billy was buried like a true gearhead, atop his Harley and decked out in full riding gear.

When you look down the road, it seems to never end, but you better believe it does.

Man Wins Facebook Contest, Thanks Voters By Doing Animal Impressions

(Video Link)

Keir Moffatt was just an ordinary, animal loving dude with way too much time on his hands when he entered a Facebook contest by posting a tip about working from home.

His tip won with 52 likes, making him $150 richer in Apple Land, so to thank those who voted for him he made a video featuring his impression of 52 different animals, each more hilarious than the last.

Keir uses household objects as part of his costume, which really lends to the authenticity of each impression, and whether he's portraying a wall walking gecko or a seal munching orca, Keir puts his all into what critics are calling a "unique performance".

Geeky Garbage Pail Kid Paintings By Brent Engstrom

Garbage Pail Kids were the answer to those cheerful lil cherubs the Cabbage Patch Kids, but they were also cool works of geeky art in their own right, and most who collected GPK cards don't really appreciate the value of the art until later in life.

I'm guessing artist Brent Engstrom is one of those collectors who grew up and saw how unique the GPK art was, so he decided to try his hand at creating some of his own trashy characters.

Brent's creations look like they'd fit right in with the series, and yet the ones that couldn't have been made due to licensing (Voltron) are sure to rekindle some of that geek love lurking in the hearts of grown up '80s kids.

Check out more of Brent Engstrom's Garbage Pail Kids paintings over at GeekTyrant.

The Decaying Decadence Of Billionaire's Row In London

(Video Link)

A foggy day in London town won’t help to obscure the ugliness and utter decay found in the derelict mansions that make up Billionaire’s Row, and even though the mansions are valued at 350 million pounds the way they’re looking nowadays they’re worth exactly zero.

These rotting houses were once an esteemed part of The Bishops Avenue in Hampstead, north London, but now they are symbols of a serious housing shortage in the UK and market corruption caused by foreign owners who have left many of the properties empty for the last twenty years yet still manage to make a profit from what a neighboring property owner is calling "one of the most expensive wastelands in the world".

Read more about these rotting mansions worth millions over at The Guardian.

The Big Lebowski Re-Imagined As A CGI Kung Fu Flick

(Video Link)

The Dude abides whether he’s kicking back with a White Russian, or kicking butt in a school for kung fu, and the characters created by the Coen Brothers for their classic film The Big Lebowski seem to fit right in wherever, and whenever, you find them.

In this case some students from the Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark have envisioned a scenario where The Dude, Walter and Donny kick it really old school, in ancient Asian style, and have their mellows harshed by a certain ball toting baddie named Jesus and his pack of ninja assassins.

It’s only a mini-trailer at this point, but the students are hoping to turn it into a longer film in the near future, so at this point you can either watch it or say "Screw it, let’s go bowling!"

Chandeliers Made Of Bicycle Parts Used To Beautify Freeway Underpass

Some people find elevated freeways, and in particular the underpass created by the freeway, to be a real eyesore, but what can anybody do to spruce up such a sterile concrete environment?

San Antonio based artists Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock have come up with an illuminating idea- turn recycled bicycle parts into chandeliers. Their project is called Ballroom Luminoso, and the effect created by the LED lit chandeliers really brings a touch of class to that drab underpass.

But will a set of cool and colorful bike part chandeliers be enough to get people together under the freeway? Or will they simply shed light on a roadside problem which is usually kept in the dark?

You can see more of these amazing bicycle part chandeliers over at Treehugger.

Candid Photos Of Miserable Men Waiting While Their Wives Shop

Have you ever wondered why stores have those sad little chairs sitting outside the dressing rooms? These guys know, and I guess the stereotype rings true- some guys hate going shopping with their wives, and yet they're always getting suckered in to coming along, which results in a bunch of sad sacks loafing around department stores looking like they’d rather be anywhere else in the world.

The unhappy male shopping companion is the subject of an Instagram photo series called Miserable Men, which features some hilariously candid depictions of men yawning, fast asleep in chairs, and sometimes sitting in long rows commiserating with their fellow schlubs while their wives are busy shopping.

Meet The Real Life Simpsons In A Home Movie Starring Matt Groening

(Video Link)

Matt Groening is the creator behind one of the longest lasting and most lucrative animated series ever, The Simpsons, and his inspiration for Springfield and the characters who live there was a closely guarded secret, until it all came out a few years back.

Now everyone knows that Matt’s dad was named Homer, his mother was named Margaret and his sisters were named Lisa and Maggie, but what you probably don’t know is Matt’s dad was a cartoonist and amateur filmmaker as well, and papa Homer shot this darling video starring a young Matt and his sisters called The Story back in 1969.

It’s more like a well made home movie than a polished short film, but it’s great to see some of the inspiration behind Matt Groening’s future endeavors, and those young Groening kids are so darn cute!

New Tumblr Blog Showcases Virtual Paintings In Video Games

Video game developers have been adding colorful visual elements and amusing details to engage gamers and make the world feel more complete since the dawn of gaming.

Chief among these added details are the virtual paintings found in video game locales such as haunted houses, castles, dungeons and temples, just to name a few. Sometimes paintings were just there to add color, other times they were like easter eggs for gamers to find, inside jokes which delighted detail oriented gamers.

Recently a Tumblr site called Video Game Art Archive launched, and it’s dedicated to paintings found in video games, and though their collection is far from exhaustive at this point there are some real gems in the collection that truly deserve recognition as standalone works of pixel art.

Star Wars Themed Short Film That Takes Place Completely In The Dark

(Video Link)

Don’t let those dancing Ewoks fool you- the world of Star Wars is a very dark place, full of psychic choke holds, limbs severed by lightsabers and chest exploding blaster fire.

Dark Troopers is a geeky short film by Corey Vidal, and an interesting addition to the many fan films set in the Star Wars universe, which shows how easy it is for one Jedi to cut down a bunch of stormtroopers in total darkness. To emphasize this fact the entire film is shot without lighting, so the only light you’ll see is the glow of lightsabers and the streak of blaster bolts.

Snowdogs- A Motor Powered Sled Race In Russia

You can’t really ride your choppers around in Samara, Russia during the winter, so bikers had to come up with another way to get around town- sleds powered by motorcycle engines.

The tenth annual Snowdogs motor-sled competition recently took place, and photographer Dmitri Ruzov was there to capture all the ingenious contraptions that hit the ice.

Some of the vehicles in attendance were basically just sleds with motors slapped on them, while others retained their motorcycle roots and actually look like they’d be a lot of fun to ride. However, the one that looks like a frame and wheel attached to an airplane engine seems like a total deathtrap.

Check out more photos from the Snowdogs race at Animal NY.

Delta Airline's Totally Radical New 80s Themed Safety Video

(Video Link)

Delta Airlines is taking us back to the good old days of air travel with their new 80s themed in flight safety video. It features all the typical stuff you’d expect to see in anything themed after that most radical of decades, the 1980s- breakdancing, an Atari console, a cameo by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Teddy Ruxpin, crazy neon clothes, totally grody hairstyles, and that beloved alien cat eater ALF.

What this video doesn’t discuss, however, is the fact that you could smoke on a plane in the 80s, and even though the smoking was kept to designated areas there was nowhere for the smoke to go so everyone got a lungful as they flew! Okay, now I see why they left that part out…
