Slowly they crept, paw by paw, foot by foot, stair by stair, when suddenly they felt (and smelled) a fetid wind upon their necks. It was Nosferatu, the rat-faced creep who'd been chasing people out of the Renfield Hotel by, like, hissing at them all menacingly. Shaggy's knees started to shake as he stammered out "D-d-d-d-don't hurt me you creep!", followed by Scooby's assent "Rah! There's a whole generation who thinks of Brooklyn, New York as the Hipster capital of the U.S., a place where the artsy and pretentious gather to discuss how cool they are over craft cocktails.

But Brooklyn was originally a working class neighborhood, and by the 70s the jobs were gone and the "fourth largest city in America" had so much crime, poverty and violence the streets were crackling with negative energy.

The Blackout of 1977, the Son of Sam murders committed by Brooklyn native David Berkowitz, the Mafia wars spilling over onto the streets- these are just some of the things that went down in Brooklyn back in the day.

Troubles in Brooklyn kept on keeping on well into the 90s, as the next deadly decade was ushered in with the Crown Heights riot of 1991.

And even though the Hipsters would have you believe they've always been in Brooklyn they tend to stay in the Williamsburg area because Bushwick and Bed-Stuy are still pretty gritty.

When we first meet someone we want to become friends with we stay on our best behavior and try to show this future friend our best sides, so as not to scare them away with our faults.

Only superfans know every single thing Jim Henson created during his storied career, but in this case ignorance is a good thing- because it gives the rest of us an excuse to look into his lesser known creations.

You may remember the Swedish Chef endorsed Cröonchy Stars cereal released in the late 80s, but I had no idea the cereal was actually created by Henson and art director Michael Frith.

Jim wasn't averse to working in advertising, and early in his career he was asked to create a series of ads for Wilkins Coffee starring Wilkins and Wontkins, two of Henson's earliest puppet creations.

Although he's best known for his puppets Jim started out as a cartoonist, and some of Henson's earliest illustrative work can be seen in his comic strip Pierre the French Rat, which was printed in his high school yearbook. (See full sized image here)

Henson was a huge fan of comic strips, so he helped create a pilot for a TV adaptation of the popular Parker and Hart strip The Wizard of Id, but networks took so long to pick up the series Jim had already moved on to making Sesame Street.

People jokingly wish they had more arms or legs so they can get more stuff done, but I've never heard anyone wish they had more fingers and toes.

That's because most people know the excess digits created by polydactylism make life harder- they decrease manual dexterity, attract unwanted attention and make it hard to live a normal life.

Polydactylism usually creates one or two more digits, which is fairly easy to fix with surgery, but what does someone born with 31 fingers and toes do about this issue?

A baby boy named Hong Hong will someday have to learn how to live with 31 fingers and toes unless his parents can raise enough money to pay for the costly surgery.

The boy was born with no thumbs and two palms on each hand, so doctors will have to figure out how to construct functional, opposable thumbs for the boy in addition to removing the extra digits.

Hong Hong's mother has the same condition, but her extra digits don't interfere with the normal function of her hands.

Marionettes aren't known for their musical skills, because if their arms and legs can't stop flopping around they can't really play an instrument, now can they?
