Actors Who Were In Both Star Trek And Star Wars

The top two sci-fi franchises of all time continue to divide the geek community like the Death Star divided Alderaan, and for decades fans have been either team Star Wars or team Star Trek.

Now that's not to say you can't like them both fairly equally, but forced to choose in a "desert island" scenario fans will always choose one over the other.

And while the actors don't see a problem appearing in both franchises, especially when they're just doing voiceover work for an animated Star Wars series, the fans always have some gripe about their crossover appearance.

As this Looper video shows Trek alumni George Takei, Simon Pegg and Brent Spiner don't care if they catch heat from the fans about working in both universes. And Ron Perlman and Deep Roy don't get any grief about appearing in both franchises because they're too awesome to criticize.

Then you grew up watching Reading Rainbow, and you probably miss hearing LeVar Burton read books to you, knowing like I do that any audiobook he doesn't narrate is missing that LeVar magic.

Trying To Escape From A Special Operations Sniper

Snipers eliminate their targets with deadly accuracy, and they're trained to spend days waiting for that perfect shot window to appear, keeping watch for other threats and targets while they wait.

They become extremely familiar with their surroundings when they're on "overwatch" duty, assessing any new threats that enter their field of vision, which makes it really hard to get the drop on a special operations sniper.

So does an average reporter-type dude in a tie like Mike Carrier stand a chance of escaping from David the former Marine Corps special operations sniper team leader without getting shot (with paint)?

BuzzFeed presents a special episode of Outsmarted starring Mike Carrier, a guy who will go to great lengths for a four pack of Reese's peanut butter cups.

The Quests You'll Embark On In Every RPG You Play

Every roleplaying game series is set in a different world, and each game in the series tells its own story within that world.

But for all the differences between franchises the nature of the genre makes it nigh impossible to create an RPG that doesn't include fetch quests, grinding for quest items and those sudden boss battles you cannot win.

Andy Kluthe and Tristan Cooper created this fun tribute to those schlocky quests included in every RPG, which are somehow both comfortingly familiar and totally hackneyed.

Martin Scorsese Discusses Filmmaking In This Animated Interview

The characters in Martin Scorsese's movies are always worried about getting pinched, whacked, ratted out, iced and/or framed, but the director himself is only concerned with one of these things- framing.

As a director Scorsese takes framing very seriously, along with credit sequences, storyboarding and Westerns, all of which he discussed with T.J. English in the 1990 interview cartoon-ified by Patrick Smith for Blank On Blank.

The Most Adorable Father Daughter Photo Series Ever

Dads have some bad sides- they're hostile and angry when woken up from a nap, grumpy and groggy when they don't get enough sleep, and sleepy and gassy when they've had too much to eat.

But one of dad's good sides totally overshadows the bad- when he's being an adorable goofball by playing dress up with his kid.

That's when you can see a dad at his most adorable, as exemplified by silly doting daddy Sholom Ber Solomon and his tiny daughter Zoe.

Sholom was eager to set up a father daughter photo shoot with Zoe, a bit too eager to wait until she'd learned how to walk, so he dressed them both up and took them out on some silly staged adventures.

Lunchtime Is Coming...

Game Of Thrones fans adore Kristian Nairn because he did such a great job playing Hodor and because he's actually a cool and likeable guy in real life, an actor from a hit show who still has a sense of humor about himself.

And it's a good thing he keeps on smiling no matter where his acting career takes him- because in his latest role he plays a fast food worker dealing with the lunch rush in a commercial for KFC UK and Ireland.

The Otherworldly Personas Of Makeup Artist Ryan Burke

Club Kids were underground fashion icons who created their own freaky couture looks and lorded over the club and party scene first in NYC then in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami during the 80s and 90s.

The Club Kids weren't exactly drag queens but the two scenes do have a lot in common, and these days photographer, make up and visual artist Ryan Burke is the closest thing we've got to an avant garde Club Kid.

The mysterious personas Ryan creates make an impression on the viewer, and it's not hard to imagine what sort of character each persona would be, our minds putting together their backstory based on the visual information we're presented.

Don't these two look like the strange villain and even stranger hero from some far out sci-fi flick?

Watch Neill Blomkamp's Experimental Sci-Fi War Short Firebase

Neill Blomkamp is one of those fortunate filmmakers who is able to bring their stories to life just as they see them in their minds, which he's been doing one short at a time lately through his experimental film venture Oats Studios

His first Oats Studios release was called Rakka and starred Sigourney Weaver, and now Neill shows us war is hell with Firebase, a gory NSFW short film not for the faint of heart:

Firebase ultimately centers around an American solider who finds himself at odds with a mysterious enemy in the Vietnamese jungle. On the surface, the foe appears to be that of combatant soldiers, but when peeling back their flesh, it’s clear these things are anything but human.

Black Belt Kid Vs. White Belt Adults

For many of the folks who attend martial arts classes and train in a class setting the whole process is all about the belts, with black being the highest of them all.

Once someone earns a black belt it no longer seems to matter which martial art they earned the belt in, because they go from simply studying karate, jiu jitsu or aikido to being a "black belt", which makes them sound like a badass.

But how badass can an 11-year-old girl with a black belt really be?

This BuzzFeedBlue video proves you shouldn't mess with tiny black belts unless you're wearing pads!

Hilarious "Me Vs. Me One Second Later" Comics

Ever have one of those moments where you say or do something then regret it a second later?

Then you've had a "me vs. me one second later" moment, which we experience because our brains keep telling us we like stuff that we really don't enjoy at all, like socializing with other people, working out or going to the beach in the summer.

Cartoonist Evisa Isabella Rose documents her "me vs. me one second later" moments through her comic strips, and whether you relate to them or not Evisa's comics are quirky and charming enough to elicit a smile.

Take A Flight Of Fancy With "Johanne"

The fantasy genre  is home to many strong female characters, and the stars of these fantasy tales inspire girls to dream about being something far better than a prissy princess or a scullery maid turned royal.

In this conceptual animated short by Anna-Ester Volozh et al we meet Johanne, a young girl with an armed posse who takes to the skies to fight for honor.

Inspired in part by Joan of Arc, Johanne is a visualization of a fantastic daydream with a wonderfully retro 2D animation style that made my heart soar.

If Movie Characters Had Poor Eyesight

People with poor eyesight can do most everything the perfectly sighted can, with the exception of easily reading stuff, but pop culture characters must have perfect eyesight unless poor eyesight is part of their character.

That's because characters like Indiana Jones and Luke Skywalker rely on their keen eyesight to get the heroic job done, and without their prime peepers they wouldn't have lived to see the sequels.

These comic strips by illustrator Wren McDonald for Visian ICL are the first in a silly series that shows what movies would be like if the main characters had poor eyesight. Who says heroes don't wear glasses?

This Is Catherine Nichepor. She Comes From The USA.

Photography was seen as somewhat of a novelty well in to the 20th century, and when the first instant camera was introduced in 1948 people went crazy for these instant gratification devices.

But before the instant camera came the photobooth- a novelty vending machine that spit out a strip of portraits in mere minutes, which was extremely popular with the young folks.

The girl featured in these photo strips is Catherine Nichepor, and she began a yearly photobooth tradition back in the mid-1930s when the first Photomaton machine came to her town.

Catherine kept her yearly photos inside an album which was purchased by the author of Yesterdish at a car boot sale back in 2014, and he has been researching this interesting photobooth enthusiast ever since.

Here's a bit more about Catherine Nichepor, pictured above at age 16, 17 and 20:

Catherine was the daughter of Russian immigrants. In primary school, she went by the name Katrina Nichepor, then Cathern in middle school, finally settling on Catherine in high school.

Her parents operated a general store. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1933, a year after her elder sister Sophie. Sophie and Catherine both grew up dancing, and danced together in festivals at their Russian Orthodox church.

In 1935 Catherine started her dancing career. She danced under her own name and occasionally under the name Kay Nichols. She kept a scrapbook with newspaper clippings of some of the shows in which she performed, including the Hit Parade of 1936 in an autographed photo she sent home to her sister.
