I've been doing it for 18 years now, and I haven't quite turned into a troll. I consider myself lucky for the opportunity. It certainly made my time as a single mother easier.
My mother once ran low of halloween candy in the early 60's and just went out herself to collect some to give back out. Dad passed it out while she was away. To her credit, she never took any of mine to give out, although she wasn't above sneaking some for herself.
Many CEOs today are psychopaths. The great robber barons of the 19th century - the railroad owners, JP Morgan, etc. - all exhibited psychopathic traits. I know one man personally, who is definitely psychopathic and he has gone far in business. The tell is a complete lack of empathy and conscience.
Of course, this all depends on how you define "success." The article is addressing career success, which is not how everyone defines a successful life. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
I try to memorize the names of character actors from the 50s and 60s who I see on Perry Mason, Western TV shows and movies, etc. I'm hoping it forestalls dementia/Alzheimer's.
