Perhaps my memory betrays me but I remember some comic strip making light of one runner out running another friend who was being chased by a bear that was slower than another because of his shoes...

An uneasy relationship w/ravens? Seriously?
When I was 9 I had a pet raven. We lived near a 2 partitioned golf course. My Dad and brother would walk around the courses and retrieve lost golf balls and my Dad would sell them to people he worked with.
One day they found a juvenile raven crying in a tree, caught it and brought it home to me. I had to feed it every 3 hours with an oatmeal and grubworm gruel. It loved it! I loved the raven but it finally reached an age where it was time to go off and be an adult. I let him go and he never looked back. Still, it was an experience few folk have enjoyed. No regrets. Just happy memories.

We had a party at our house. There was a person who was pretty nosey and was the kind of person who would gladly rummage around in your medicine cabinet or underwear drawer or purse and help themselves to things they found if they could get away with it.
This person had done these things before to some of our other friends, too. So... we set up our medicine cabinet to hold hundreds of marbles. If anyone opened it all the marbles would spill out and make an awful noise.
Sure enough, about an hour into the party this person went into the bathroom and opened up the cabinet. Most of the folks at the party knew what might happen so there was a bit of a crowd around the bathroom door. The guest came out of the bathroom to face them all laughing at him/her. He/She left shortly after that after having apologized for snooping.
Harsh? You bet. But this person had 'sticky' fingers and sometimes our medicine bottles would disappear after their visit but they would be long gone before we noticed there were missing items. The marbles seemed to cure their curiosity because they were never seen snooping again. At least not around this circle of people.

I and my husband will celebrate 44 years of marriage this December. IF anyone wanted my advice it would be this: Always speak kindly and respectfully to each other, try not to go to bed while an argument is still in full roil, if you are parents then support each other's decisions - don't make the kids play off of you, remember the details - things that made/make your marriage special, adopt phrases from movies and tv shows that make you laugh and use them from time to time - but, above all else, accept each other for the individuals they are, let them grow and change and come along for the ride. It will be so worth it.

I have a Roomba. What a waste of money, IMO. I have 2 dogs that shed a lot of fur so the hair clogs up that machine quickly. Can't even do one room before it needs help. Then you have to disassemble the thing to unclog the hair and then put it back together again. Finally bought a wonderful, low noise, strong suction vacuum cleaner and it's so much better now.

As a boomer I remember what a treat it was to have a TV dinner. The fried chicken dinner was a real favorite. Turkey, gravy, corn and stuffing was popular. Anything that was already prepared in an aluminum foil dish was A-Okay with me! My family had TV trays so we could all eat in front of the tv. Now, I would never have allowed my children to eat this way. But then, hindsight...
AND you just had to sneak in a jello recipe, too? aarrgghhh!!!

I believe Furrdy definitely has a lot of Maine Coon catness in him. He's gorgeous! So glad he has a furever home now.

Perhaps the interest rate was ridiculously high? Some lending facilities tend to do that to certain focus groups like minorities and the elderly, to name just 2. When my elderly parents wanted to take out a loan for some home improvements they were initially denied the loan. Later on they found a lender who would give them the loan but the interest rate was crazy. Usury laws be damned! My folks finally decided not to get a loan because of all the trouble/hassle they had gone through and they just couldn't justify the high interest rate.

This is a bit cruel, you know, to show us nice things we can't get. Do you have any idea how we mere mortals can acquire such a prize?

Usually, before the first frost we pick the green tomatoes and wrap them in newspaper and put them into a large paper grocery bag. They will slowly ripen over time and we have enjoyed wonderful ripe tomatoes well into February. My dad always grew way too many tomato plants but they never went to waste in our family. When I was expecting my 2nd child I craved tomatoes and ate a whole basketful in 1 day. I still can't believe I actually did that.

This fascinates me. I so wanted to be a paleontologist when I was young but my vertebrae did not want to accommodate the style of living that paleontologists exist in. I so very much wanted to find fossils and show the world what was way back when...

In your myths about ravens some of those myths didn't sound awful, the ravens were helpful.
"for every civilization that thought of them as pure evil there was one who saw the raven as a powerful deity or nature spirit." Seems like a 50-50 thing to me if your quote is correct.
