Jaimee, people who live longer need just as much care, since we all have health problems toward the end of life. They noted that thin non-smokers have more strokes, because they just don't die of something else first.
artbot, click the "link" and you go to the artist's site, with the original version. I resize pics before I put them on Flickr so the exact size I want to use is available.
This would be a real hit at a kids' party! But you'd have to make sure there were enough for each kid to have a least three, then they'd just play with their food instead of eating it. The great part is that you'd cover "food" and "activities" all in one!
A lot of the expense in the red box reflects choice. It does not neccessarily have to cost twice as much to raise a child in a rich family as it does in a not-rich family.
The child care expenses may SEEM way off, but it is skewed by the many many families who don't pay for daycare, either because they don't use it, or grandparents provide it at no cost.
Healthcare is definitely screwy. It appears that they surveyed people with health insurance, yet didn't factor in the cost of the insurance itself.
Watch out, Alex. Anecdotal evidence from everyone I know says it costs twice as much to feed a boy (compared to a girl) til he leaves home!
It sure wouldn't have worked when I was in school; they served us beans as a main dish at least twice a week!
