Bunk Strutts didn’t fall for that story about a boy doing a handstand at Four Corners. It was a clever cover-up for the fact that the child was abducted by aliens! Link
Instructables has step-by-step instructions for making your own Rheopectic slime.
The slime we made is a Non Newtonian fluid and is rheopectic which means it shows an increase on its apparent viscosity with time under a constantly applied stress.
In other words, the more you play with it, it will become more viscous (even you can make a ball with it and it bounces) and we you stop (the shearing force is gone) it starts flowing (see the video, first you will see it flow when no shear force is present (you can also leave it in a table an see how it flows), then I applied a shear force on it and made it a ball that bounced.
This recipe is not safe for children under 5, who might eat it. Link
Test your Visual Recognition Memory for faces, objects, and names. I scored slightly below average on all three tests. The test is simple to understand and takes about 15 minutes, unless you blaze through it like I did. Link -via Dump Trumpet
Who is this? See the comments if you don’t know. Some very good Photoshop users made portraits by using the left side of one person’s face, and the right side of another. Cover half the face with your hand to recognize who it is. Some of these faces blend rather well; others, not so much. I was a bit freaked out when I saw the Bill and Hillary Clinton combination and saw a resemblance to Paul McCartney! Or maybe that was just me... Link -via Dump Trumpet
Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories took a RFID credit card apart to see what was inside. The works are so small, they will fit into almost anything (Windell is asking for suggestions). Then he modded it into a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser! Link
Ten people died this year at a kite-flying competition in Pakistan. The Dakar Rally has been responsible for 48 competitor deaths. Pole vaulting has the highest death rate of any American sport! That’s just the beginning of the carnage in the Mental Floss article 6 Sports Too Deadly for Gym Class. Link
Lauren Upton has already found a job due to her internet fame! She is hosting the Miss S.C. Teen USA's Geography Pop Quiz at People Magazine. See if you can answer seven geography questions. If not, Lauren will explain the answers to you. Link -via the Presurfer
I honestly thought this Star Wars/Simpsons mashup was from the TV show, but it was done by animator Rich Cando (who also did Star Dudes). You get to hear Darth Vader say "D'oh!" Link -via YesButNoButYes
Some adventuresome surfers are taking advantage of glaciers that are breaking up by surfing in the waves caused by falling chunks of ice! The surfers must be towed out close to the glacier, but not too close, or they risk death by falling ice. Then they must guess where and when a wall of ice will fall. Glacial surfers wear helmets and specially-padded wetsuits to guard against injury. Glacial waves can be as high as 30 feet, and provide a ride that can last several minutes. Link
A Chinese woman named Cheng I Sao (also referred to as Cheng Shih) controlled a fleet of more than 1,500 ships and upwards of 80,000 sailors in the early 19th century. She ruled with an iron hand, became extremely wealthy, and managed to talk her way out of legal troubles and retire peacefully. Link -via Reddit
The story goes that in ‘78, Mark Gubin was having lunch with his assistant, who remarked upon all the low-flying planes - saying how nice it would be to make a sign welcoming everyone to Milwaukee. Apparently Gubin simply said, “You know what would be even better...?â€
