Timely info. My SIL's stove is out, so I loaned her my electric skillet. The numbers are gone from the control, so I sent it with a note saying as far as I can remember, the halfway point on the dial is about 350. But I don't worry, because she's been cooking almost as long as I have, and knows when the hot oil is just right.
After I closed on my first house, I found it came with six cats under the front porch. I already had two cats! The previous homeowner fed them but never let them inside. Her home had apparently gained a reputation as a good place to dump cats. We found homes for the three relatively young cats, the two tomcats wandered off to greener pastures, and the ancient feral who wouldn't let us near her but refused to leave, she eventually died (but not from starvation). As far as we knew, no one dumped cats there after we moved in, probably because we also had a big dog.
Oh! Oh! How about this one: the first time I saw Star Wars in a theater, I fell asleep because I'd had too many cocktails. To be fair, I was still technically too young to drink in that particular state.
I recall that night a new boyfriend showed me the eight-track deck in his GTO Judge. He explained how it worked, because I had never seen such a thing.
Now that I think about it, my dressing recipe doesn't need to be cooked at all, since the ingredients are as cooked as they need to be before I combine them. That's a good thing, since I constantly taste-test it to get the spices right. One that contains eggs to hold it together would certainly require baking. I bake it anyway, to get that crust on top, to make it more aromatic, and to serve it hot. With turkey gravy, it's heaven.
