Yep -I tend to put the lid down, as we have one cat who likes to knock everything off any surface into the floor, including the over-toilet shelves. Also, when I restock the TP supply bin, I've lost a couple of rolls with my butterfingers. I'm trying to get the kids to do the same as a habit, mainly to keep their toothbrushes safe, but I have no idea what they do upstairs.
When you're young, you worry about what people think of you. When you're middle-aged, you don't care what people think of you. When you're old, you realize nobody was ever thinking of you.
My local shelter is a metal quonset hut with rooms divided by chain-link fence inside, but the volunteers work their butts off to take care of the animals. And it's much better than what we had before, which was nothing.
