Captain Picard Day

Yesterday was Captain Picard Day, a Trekkie holy day when fans pay homage to the great Jean-Luc Picard by drawing him. It's in reference to this scene from TNG. Here's a blog that gathers together these sacred icons for your perusal.

I know -- I should have posted this yesterday. But it slipped my mind, so I must do penance.

Old Gangsters Never Die

(YouTube Link)

"Old Gangsters Never Die" is an old Alan Moore and Lloyd Thatcher comic. In this video, it's performed in spoken word. It's quite clever. I've seen narrated video presentations of comics, but not like this. It's almost like you're really in a seedy, smoke-filled bar listening to the gangster.

Vuvuzela Hero

Please. God. No.

Well, thankfully, this is a photoshop job and not an actual product under development.

Halo Carved Rubber Stamp

Craftster user astrangeone makes hand-carved stamps. Here's one that she made of Master Chief from the Halo franchise. What a fascinating medium! I've never encountered it before.

Star Trek Mona Lisas

The Mona Lisa on the left is by Murdock Scott. I'm not sure who's responsible for the Klingon variation.

Now before you get worried about Miss Mona's safety: yes, she's wearing a red uniform. But females red shirts tend to be more durable, provided they can avoid Captain Kirk's roving hands.

"Autobots, Roll Out!"

Actor Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, fulfills a fan request in this video. I've never seen a picture of Cullen before. Somehow I expected him to look more metallic and modular....

LEGO Star Wars Boba Fett Costume

How adorable! And the hands are a good illustration of the eternal utility of duct tape. More pictures at the link.

Run this Raid

(Video Link)

"Run this Raid" is a World of Warcraft-themed parody of the Jay-Z song "Run this Town".
You think we need to achieve more?
What you PvP for? Honor f@#kin’ rewards?
But you know I'm done level grinding
Killing creeps and mobs, that ain't nothing
I came to fight a real war, not go hunting
Only gear you got is gear from gold farming
While you're out spending all day in the real sun
I'm in-game, what, having real fun
Shift function, I'll target you, son
Holy Light so bright you wish you had one
You like a n00b who don't know how to auto-run
Hit my level cap you haven't even begun
You sleepin', AFK? Come on, pay attention!
This is Warcraft, not a Neopets session!

Your Homework Assignment

And to think that some people think that weeklies like Newsweek are dead.

UPDATE: Well, that was nice while it lasted. Yesterday, when users entered the code, Newsweek reported on a zombie attack. You can view a screenshot at io9.

Lost/Star Wars Mashup

In this high production value video from the editors of Cracked, Jack Shepherd and the Locke Monster duel with lightsabers for the fate of the galaxy. Why? Because adding lightsabers makes anything better. Keep that in mind for your next family reunion.

Father and Son Build Stargate (Replica)

This is a simply amazing crafting project. That's really only evident at the link when you can see the process photos of what went into its creation. Stargate Information Archive forum member mango and his father planned the project in AutoCad and made the rings so that the inner one actually spins, just like on the show. Outstanding job, guys!
